Windows 10: Speakers functioning, but no audio after update to Windows 10 Home ver. 1809 on Jan.22, 2019

Today, I became aware that I no longer had audio when on the internet, i.e., youtube, news link videos, etc. I tested my speakers and connections. They are fine. Being prompted that a Windows update was available, I updated to Windows 10 Home version 1809 on January 22, 2019. I checked the status of the driver installation for my Realtek speakers in Device Manager and found the installation was successful on 1/22/2019. I did an update for the Realtek driver today. A newer version was installed, but still no audio.

can we update Windows 10 ver.1709 to ver.1809 directly using "Windows 10 Update Assistant"???

 

My speakers are not working/My speakers are muted because of a Function Key.

Windows 10 may have encountered a driver conflict that caused this issue since you've already tried the function keys + F9 to F11. For us to help you with this, kindly answer the following questions:

• Have you made any recent changes to your computer prior to this issue?
• What is the current build and version of your Windows 10? To check type in
  winver on the search bar and press Enter.
• What is the model number of your Toshiba laptop?
• Are you using a built in speaker or an external speaker?

Meanwhile, we suggest that you update your audio driver by following the steps on this

link. We also recommend that you uninstall and reinstall your audio driver if it is already up to date.
