Windows 10: Special character menu opens when I press any letter key + space bar.

Hi so I am having a weird problem that when I press any letter key + the space bar. Some menu is popping up and showing special characters and letters in other languages. I am using the English US keyboard layout and also have the English India layout as a secondary, so how to fix this problem? Screenshot attached for referenceThanks!

How to stop special character option bar from popping up when pressing character key and space

Whenever I press and hold a key then press space I get a pop up at the top of the screen for special characters. Hitting space while holding the character causes it to cycle through them.
This makes it impossible to play games on my PC. If I press and hold 'W' to move forward and try to jump it jumps once and then won't do anything in the game.

This started happening after the windows 11 update. Can you please help me turn this off? I tried uninstalling the keyboard devices and restarting and that did not work.

I find it easier to just press the key with 1 on it, instead of Alt+(numpad)49 *Wink

Every Windows has Charmap in Start | Windows Accessories. It's great if you need a one time character, but not as convenient as learning the few often typed characters such as the ones Dick mentioned.

If you want to go further with characters, beyond this thread then you should take a peek at Charmap

 

Windows 10 special Characters

Hi Mohammed Nabil Masri

Press Windows logo key+X. In that power menu open Command prompt(admin) and in that type charmap .

And check there for required special character.
