Windows 10: Special characters with Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator

While I have successfully created layouts with the MKLC utility, my last attempt involved enhancing the keyboard with special characters through the Alt Gr + key combination. I wanted to add characters such as: Alt Gr + S: ßAlt Gr + <: «Alt Gr + >: » Alt Gr + :: …Alt Gr + N: – Alt Gr + M: —That works within MKLC when I use its Project Test Keyboard Layout option, but when I compile the layout, deploy it and select that enhanced keyboard through the Language Bar, those special characters don´t get typed when I key them in any other application.Pay careful attention that this is NOT

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.



I understand that you are facing difficulties with the French and Spanish keyboard layouts. In few keyboard layouts that are installed with the language pack, the accented characters appear by just pressing the symbol keys. However,
you can also check the suggestion below and see if it is helpful to you.



Using United States-International keyboard layout for the installed Language pack:

1. Press the Windows key and
   I key, this will open the Settings app for you.
   
2. Select Time & Language, on the left pane click on
   Language.
   
3. Select the French or Spanish language pack that you have already installed and select
   Options.
   
4. Under Keyboards, click on
   Add a keyboard.
   
5. Add the United States-International keyboard and remove the standard keyboard for that language.
   
6. Now in the taskbar, you should be able to see the
   United States-International keyboard under the language pack that you selected. Alternatively, you can press the
   Windows key and Space key to switch between the input languages.
   

Check if you are able to type the accented characters.

Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator don't build

Hi Frank,

We need to ask you a few questions for us to better understand the situation. Please answer the following information:

• For clarification, what do you mean by "Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator 1.4.6000.2 under Windows 10 don't build"?
• Are you trying to use the Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator? If yes, what happen when you launching the app?
• Are you getting an error message?

We'll keep an eye out on your response.

 

Special characters in us international keyboard

I write in Spanish and English. For Spanish special characters such as accents, I have used the US English International keyboard layout for years (Windows XP, 7, 8) with no problem. I recently upgraded to Windows 10 and I now have accents but no tilde
(~) for the n. I have not changed the keyboard layout. Can anybody help?
