Windows 10: Specific keyboard keys stopped working after installing Win 10

After installing windows 10 on my HP laptop PC, some keyboard keys have stopped working. The keys that don't work are: { 'escape' 'g' 'h' 'backspace' }. I am sure it is not a hardware problem because on occasion, all the keys that previously did not work, start working again. In fact, as I am typing this thread, my keys are working correctly. When they stop working, I try to uninstall or update the driver in device manager but that does not work. Keep in mind this started happening after installing Windows 10. I have not had this problem in Windows 8.1.

Strange, a few keys are not working properly after upgrading Latest Windows 10 15063

It is very strange. laptop Lifebook T580 after instalation Win 10 (15603). there are following problems:

1. a few keyboard keys are not working properly (Namely: Keys - 5, R, T, S, C,V). first I thought is keyboard problem. I cleaned and cleaned, not working, I have to use on board keyboard (Touch screen). but sometimes these keys are working again. in most
cases, they are not working. There was no specific drivers from vender for windows 10. at Device manager, most devices drivers are properly installed. there is only one device (code 28) not recognized by Win 10. I use driver wizard (Qudong Jingling) to detect
and install/upgrade. the drivers are all OK now. What shall i do to get all keys back to normal?

2. after installation, the LED screen are very dark, the brightness is not adjustable. I search the internet and found that at divice manager, you need disable the monitor and re-start it again, the led screen can be back to normal. Is there anything wrong
with intel display driver or Win 10's driver?

3. digital Pen driver is properly installed, but pen not working, it worked perfectly with Windows 8.1

Is this Lifebook T580 not suitable for win 10? please help.

Most probably a hardware error and you need to replace the keyboard.

To confirm this, try plugging in a USB Keyboard and see if the problems persist.

Have you two guys (or gals) installed your oem software for your laptop keyboards? With laptops, the software is often required in order to have functionality. I also recommend that when you visit your respective oem sites, it might be a good idea to see if they have Win10 drivers and software for everything (chipset, audio etc)

Could you direct me to where I could find such software? My keyboard is still acting up, forcing me to use my onscreen keyboard. I am a programmer...I need my keyboard to work.

 

There is no special software to install for keyboards. If the keyboard works fine with say a Linux Live DVD. It could be that Windows mapped it wrong. Windows is supposed to pick up on the keyboard during install, then give you a choice to change.

Check keyboard mapping in the Control Panel, before anything. The only extra stuff the OEM software does, is add pop-ups when changing volume, let you use multimedia function keys if your keyboard has them.

 

You need to go to the hp website and search through the software and drivers for your model. You did not specify your model here

There can be for laptops. OEMs use it to increase functionality and allow quick access to settings. It does not mean that this is the cause of OPs difficulties, but it would be the first thing I would check.

 

WhyMe as I stated before, 10 will pick up on the keyboard and load the proper drivers. Stuff like special media kes, you have to download if available on mfg. website. Majority of the manufacturers are only supporting up to Windows 7 & 8, because they were not ready for 10, when Microsoft released it.

In turn, you now have a bunch of manufacturers scrambling to code the drivers and software to be compatible with 10. We went through this with XP & 7. Now we are dealing with it again in 10.

I'm not disagreeing that some of the settings may be wrong. Possibly the registry may have incorrect values. But it is worth checking with the oem if this a known problem for which they have a fix. I have fixed loads of supposedly 'broken' laptops using this method.

 

I highly doubt that Windows incorrectly mapped the keyboard. Most likely the keyboard was already failing and Murphy's Law finally took effect.

 

Look, I will look into both of your answers. No need to argue. I will check back and let you what worked and what didn't. Worst comes to worst, my computer is still under warranty, I can always let HP figure it out.

Ok, I have tried both of your "fixes" with no success what so ever. However, I did find not a fix, but a weird kind of bypass. If I hold down my 'H' key (one of my defective keys) until it started typing in a text box, all my other defective keys start working as well. Whats weird is that it is only the 'H' key that does that. I don't consider this a fix...anyone got any ideas as to why this happens?

 

What exact model of laptop is it please?
