Windows 10: Specific screen flickering problem, possibly after a Windows update

HI All,


I have a 2 monitor setup, running on a Vega 64 Windows 10 Home

The 2 monitors have been running fine fine weeks, then suddenly yesterday I get a very strange flickering problem on one of them.

I haven't updated any drivers and I ignored the latest AMD driver.

I did notice a restore point was created yesterday about 7:30pm, and I guess that's when an update came in, and matches the time that I noticed this problem, as it was fine yesterday morning, but when I look for updated at that time, I cant see any.

A system restore failed, so that didn't help, and it seems like I only have 1 restore point, my C drive is getting full.


The problem is the screen flickers with corrupt horizontal lines moving up and down all over the place.

This only seems to happen in certain areas, for example, horizontally across the entire screen where there are buttons or other Windows elements.

When I open Radeon Software, the flickering is confined to the buttons at the very top of the software, and very bottom of the screen.

I've attached photos to show what this looks like.


My second screen is absolutely fine, I've swapped HDMI cables, Display port cables, and tried different ports on the graphics card. All ports and cables work fine on the first monitor that is working, so it's not the cables or ports

The problem will be somewhat alleviated if I unplug the monitor that works fine.

Also if I unplug the flickering monitor from the computer and use the On Screen Display, that works fine.


So something is interfering with the display drivers.

I haven't made any changes on my device. This screen flickering is only happening in Safe Mode.

Screen flickering can be caused by hardware or application issue.

To better assist you, please answer the following questions:

• Is the issue only happening in Safe Mode?
• Have you made any changes on your device prior to the issue?

Screen Flickering

Return that card for something else. I've heard of many issues with Asus Direct Cu 7970's. You could try finding a different monitor to see if your monitor is the problem, but I doubt it.

**I though you tried differnet cables. Buy a new cable and try it. Get a Dual Link DVI cable.

Here's a list.

1. Uninstall and reinstall video drivers.

2. Replace cable

3. Try different monitor

4. Try different video card

5. Replace video card.

If you can do any of the steps above, just skip to step #5.
