Windows 10: Speech recognition isn't working.

I was successfully using speech recognition until an update has set my computer against me. And, unfortunately, it's been awhile since it has ever worked.

[Window Title]Speech Recognition Error[Main Instruction]Speech Recognition could not start because the language configuration is not supported.[Content]The recognizer language must match the language of the user interface. Please change the recognizer language in the Speech Recognition control panel under Advanced Options.[OK]


Now, I haven't changed my language. It has always been English-US. If I do go to the Speech Recognition control panel, I merely get:

[Window Title]Speech Recognition[Main Instruction]Configure your Speech Recognition experience
[Content]Windows Speech Recognition is not available for the current display language


The rest of the window is essentially blank. There is NOTHING to change on that screen. Every place I check, it says that I have English-US. I figure that there is something buggered in my registry hive. It's the only thing that I can think of. It really distresses me that Microsoft decides that after certain updates are done, it won't start some programs automatically, and I have to start them manually until MS makes the decision to run them again, or, in certain cases, decides to just uninstall certain programs, but I'm not going to discuss THAT here, but I really didn't realize what was going on until I started getting an error message that Speech Recognition won't start.

I could do a wipe and reinstall, but I'm not really fond of doing that. Everything ELSE seems to be working fine. It would be really nice if I could get Speech Recognition working. I guess I could just talk into my phone and use THAT speech recognition if I can't fix this.

I would suggest you to follow the steps to see Advance speech options.

• Press Windows+X key on the keyboard
• Click on control panel
• Select speech recognition
• On the left hand pane you will see Advance speech option

No speech recognition at all

fwiw I just tried it- my locale, speech, display language etc are set to UK English. (Which took some doing this time, or something was slightly messed up).

If I type speech in Cortana's search box, say, I get Windows Speech Recognition as top search.

I use Classic Shell, with the Control Panel expanded, so in a second or less I can see 'Speech Recognition' listed there.

Similarly, if I type 'Speech' in Settings I can easily see Speech Recognition.

SpeechRuntime.exe in C:\Windows\System32\Speech_OneCore\Common ..........
