Windows 10: Speech Recongnition language

Went to turn on speech recognition, it tells me that it can't turn on because of my current display language. It is set at English and always has been. How is that possible?

Which version of Windows 10 are you using?



I would suggest you to add the language in the language pack and check if it helps.



Please follow the below steps and check if it works,

1. Press Windows + R for Run.

2. Type Control and then Enter.

3. Select the Language option.

4. Add the particular language and then download the language installation pack.

5. In Search bar type Add a language to this device and then Enter.

6. In left pane you will find Speech click on it and then select the Speech language.

7. Sign out from the account and then again sign in.

Cortana speech language?

I suggest you to follow the below steps to check the language and speech settings in Cortana.

• Press Windows + I keys on the keyboard to open settings menu.
• Click on Time and language and select region and language.
  
• Under Language option, check which language is Set as default.
  
• If you find different language, you can change it by clicking on Add a language option.
  
• Select your preferred language (English UK) and click on
  Set as default under English UK language.
• Now, click on English UK and click on Options.
• Download the language, handwriting and speech packs.
• Now, click on Speech from the Time and language settings menu.
• Check if you are able to select the speech settings to English UK.
• After performing above steps, check if you are able to use Cortana.

speech language

So, when you go to Settings/Speech and tap on the Speech Language box, do you get a list of available languages? Is the language you want in there? If it is, and you tap it, what happens?



If the language you want is not in that list, I'm not sure there is an option to 'download' additional languages to add them to the list.
