Sporadic keyboard and mouse issues making laptop unusable at times. What's going on?

In 10 minute intervals, the following issues sporadically appeared and disappeared on my HP Envy 360 laptop, which runs Windows 10:

- Caps lock would randomly turn on, although the light on the caps lock button would not and still doesn't turn on.

- Keyboard commands wouldn't work in Microsoft Office programs.

- Scrolling using either a wireless logitech mouse or the arrow buttons did not work. I either had to use "Page Up/Down," the scroll bar, or my finger on the touchscreen.

- When hitting keys with secondary symbols, I would only get the secondary symbol, especially with numerals.

- Wherever I clicked, it would highlight a certain portion of the text on the page, up to the spot where I had clicked.

- When clicking on a link or making a search in Google Chrome, the page would open in an entirely new window rather than taking me to the page in the same tab or opening up a new tab.

About 20 minutes prior to this I had clicked on an external link in Wikipedia which Chrome had blocked as "dangerous" but did not actually take me to the page. So I'm really hoping I didn't just pick up serious malware or a virus from a link on Wikipedia, but at the same time, if Chrome blocked it, it probably didn't get through, right? A deep scan by McAfee found no threats.

On the other hand, I opened my laptop yesterday morning to find that it was in the process of an update, which I've heard can cause issues.

As I was in the process of typing this, the issues popped up again for about ten minutes, so I don't know what's going on. If you have any idea what's going on, I'd really appreciate the advice.

Thanks in advance.

Laptop Keyboard/Mouse Issue

Do you mean in the OS, only?
And, are you saying keyboard and mouse... so is this external; or, do you mean keyboard and trackpad on the laptop?

I sort of am lost...you keep saying boot or booted, you are not mentioning an OS or not.

Have you tested the keyboard any other way, besides plugging in an external.
Make a Linux disk, or usb stick, you can run off of; and, test the keyboard and mouse/trackpad.
Boot to the bios does it work then?

3. Laptop Keyboard/Mouse Issue

Hello all. Fixing a laptop for a friend and one of the issues is that the mouse and keyboard will only sometimes work when you boot it. The weird thing is, when the keyboard doesn't work holding the FN key and dimming the screen or raising the volume or things of that nature still seem to work. Ideas? I took it all apart and pulled the connections and reconnected them to make sure they were snug. He has dropped this laptop a few times so could it be another issue? I know for a fact the hard drive is shot, but that wouldn't make a difference would it?
