Windows 10: Spotify app makes system restore fail use RollBack Rx Home instead of System Restore

Following my question from November 18 Spotify app makes system restore fail, I'd like to point out that I'm now using Horizon DataSys RollBack Rx Homeinstead of Windows' built-in System Restore, and that for more than 1,5 years.

This way, I am able to restore my pc to a previous state within seconds much faster than System Restore, even when the Spotify app is installed.


It has already helped me at two occasions, where normally a Windows reinstallation would have been necessary, I suppose.


Error code: 0xc0000102 - \WINDOWS\system32\drivers\WindowsTrustedRT.system

The operating system couldn't be loaded because a critical system driver is missing or contains errors. File: \WINDOWS\system32\drivers\WindowsTrustedRT.systemError code: 0xc0000102. None of the available troubleshoot options solved the problem:

• System Restore: none available although, afterwards, in Windows, I saw two restore points!
• Startup Repair: started, but after reboot, the same error appeared
• Uninstall Updates:
  • Uninstall latest quality update: done, but no result
  • Uninstall latest feature update: done, but no result

But I didn't have to reinstall Windows, because !RollBack Rx Home solved the problem.


KB4517389: installation fails: error 0x800706be

On Wednesday October 9th 2019, the installation of the cumulative update KB4517389 fails with error code 0x800706be. Rolling back to the nearest Rollback Rx snapshot didn't solve the problem. However, when I rolled back to the snapshot of July 1st, and then executed all updates, everything went fine, including KB4517389.


One remark

It's best to uninstall Rollback Rx Home before a feature update, otherwise your drive will fill with a huge snapshot!

Spotify app makes system restore fail

I just faced the same issue on Windows 10 1709 16299.192

All system restore points created while Spotify app from Microsoft store was installed are in unusable state.

Some other symptoms:

- I was unable to uninstall Spotify app. Clicking Uninstall in start menu didn't do anything, and Spotify was not on the Programs list, both in settings and control panel.

- I was able to uninstall Spotify app only in Safe Mode.

- System restore points didn't work even after uninstalling Spotify app.

P.S: This is scary. Probably I'll avoid any Microsoft Store app in the future. It doesn't make sense that system restore is effected by apps from the store. Isn't the whole point Store apps are isolated as in mobile OS's?

Rollback RX say System Restore isn't disabled when Rollback RX is installed, but that there 'may be compatibility issues'.

Also that SR is redundant when Rollback RX is in use, which is self evident.

It's common experience that System restore frequently fails to succeed in restoring, so it would be better to rely on somehting that does.

I would also be careful to check the implications of using Rollback RX when applying a feature upgrade or an in-place upgrade repair install (same procedure).

 

Spotify app makes system restore fail

In my experience, the restore points made when the Spotify app was installed on the machine, are unusable, even after uninstallation of the Spotify app.

But, when the Spotify app is uninstalled, and you create new restore points, these restore points are OK and can be used to do a system restore.
