Windows 10: SQL Server Data Tool SSDT 2017 can install on Windows Server 2016 Data center?

Which OS is required to install SQL Server Data Tool SSDT?

I have Windows Server 2016 Data center installed in my system. I need to install SSDT 2017. I am not bale to install SSDT 2017 because of this OS issue. My question is which OS is required for installing SSDT 2017?

Released: SQL Server Data Tools 17.0 RC 2

SQL Server Data Tools 17.0 Release Candidate 2 (RC 2) has just been published. You can download and install from here: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=837939.

If you’re evaluating new enhancements in Analysis Services Tabular 1400 models, be sure to download this latest version because it includes several important fixes; particularly with the modern Get Data experience.

Most noteworthy is the addition of a menu bar to the Query Editor, as shown in the following screenshot. The purpose of this menu is to provide quick and easy access to the same functions that Microsoft Excel and Power BI Desktop provide through the Query Editor ribbon.

Feedback received through email via the SSASPrev alias made it clear the Query Editor toolbar alone was not intuitive enough. See also the conversation in response to the Introducing a Modern Get Data Experience for SQL Server vNext on Windows CTP 1.1 for Analysis Services article. The ideal solution would be a ribbon in SSDT Tabular that mirrors the ribbon in Power BI Desktop. That way, there would be no friction switching back and forth between Power BI Desktop and SSDT Tabular. Unfortunately, however, the Visual Studio shell does not provide a ribbon infrastructure, requiring us to take a different approach.

While the Query Editor menu bar isn’t a ribbon, it can still be a very useful user interface element. In fact, you might find the menu arranges available commands in a clear and logical order and helps you conveniently discover performable actions. If you want to work with commands that act on a query, look at the Query menu. If you want to remove rows or keep a range of rows, the Rows menu has you covered. Want to add or remove columns? You get the idea.

Moreover, you can work with keyboard shortcuts! Want to keep the top 10 rows in a table? Press Alt+R, then K, enter 10 in the Keep Top Rows dialog box, and then press Enter. Want to remove a selected column? Press Alt+C, then R, and the job is done. Want to display the Advanced Editor? Alt+ V, E. And simply press the Alt key to discover all the available shortcut combinations. In the following screenshot, you can see the sequence to parse the time values in a column would be Alt+T, M, T, and then P. This may not be the most convenient sequence, but it comes in handy if you find yourself performing a specific action very frequently.

Next on our list is to implement support for shared queries, functions, and parameters, and then to enable as many data sources as possible for close parity with Power BI Desktop. SQL Server 2017 CTP 2.1 now available

Microsoft is excited to announce a new preview for the next version of SQL Server (SQL Server 2017). Community Technology Preview (CTP) 2.1 is available on both Windows and Linux. In this preview, we added manageability features to make it easier to configure SQL Server in Docker containers. We’re also introducing some new command line tools for managing SQL Server in our GitHub repo. And, there’s a preview of SQL Server Integration Services on Linux to try! You can try the SQL Server 2017 preview in your choice of development and test environments now: www.microsoft.com/sqlserver2017.

Key CTP 2.1 enhancements

The primary enhancement to SQL Server 2017 in this release is the ability to configure SQL Server configuration settings through environment variables passed in as parameters to docker run. This enables many of the SQL Server configuration scenarios in Docker containers such as setting the collation.

SQL Server Integration Services on Linux

SQL Server Integration Services now supports Linux for the first time! Today we are also releasing a preview of SQL Server Integration Services for Ubuntu. The preview enables you to run SSIS packages on the Linux OS, extract data from and load it to most common sources and targets, and perform common transformations. Updated SQL Server Tooling

The latest release of SQL Server Management Studio is out! It features improvements to how it works with SQL Server on Linux so make sure you have the latest. In addition, we are excited to announce the public preview availability of two new command line tools for SQL Server:

The mssql-scripter tool enables developers, DBAs, and sysadmins to generate CREATE and INSERT T-SQL scripts for database objects in SQL Server, Azure SQL DB, and Azure SQL DW from the command line.

The DBFS tool enables DBAs and sysadmins to monitor SQL Server more easily by exposing live data from SQL Server Dynamic Management Views (DMVs) as virtual files in a virtual directory on Linux operating systems.

New lightweight installer for SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)

In CTP 2.1, we moved Reporting Services installation from the SQL Server installer to a separate installer. This is a packaging change, not a product change; access to SQL Server Reporting Services is still included with your SQL Server license. The new installation process keeps our packages lean and enables customers to deploy and update Reporting Services with zero impact on your SQL Server deployments and databases.

Can't uninstall Microsoft SQL Server Data Tools

Keep getting this error.

I'm on Win10. Had VisualStudio installed and uninstalled it including every other package to make place for the 2017 version. Can't get rid of this.
