Windows 10: SQL Server instance stops after every windows update

Discus and support SQL Server instance stops after every windows update in Windows 10 Installation and Upgrade to solve the problem; Every time windows 10 is updated and restarted then sql server instance Dev 2017 version installed stops working, then I have to start the service...     SQL Server instance stops after every windows update


    Every time windows 10 is updated and restarted then sql server instance Dev 2017 version installed stops working, then I have to start the service again from services section.


    Even worst, some instances could not be started and I had to reinstall new instance.

    Any reason and permanent solution?

    Windows update stops SQL Server

    That error message usually occurs when you upgrade from MSDE 2000 to SQL Server 2008 Express. We can try to follow the steps on this

    link     to fix the error.

    Get back to us if the steps won't work.

    Looks like it was these 2 updates ...

    2017-05 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB4019472)

    Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool for Windows 8, 8.1, 10 and Windows Server 2012, 2012 R2, 2016 x64 Edition - May 2017 (KB890830)

    The error message is fairly vague ...

    "A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that
    SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. ...."

    Hi thanks for your suggestion, there wasn't though any upgrade of SQL Server happening, only windows updates. Very hard lessons learned here !
