  2. Unable to boot Windows after cloning it to SSD

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that you are facing issues while booting the PC after cloning Windows to new SSD. I would like to know what happens when you try to boot the PC to desktop using SSD?

The reason you are not able to boot the PC is that the files required to boot Windows are still recognizing the HDD as the main drive. I would suggest you to try rebuilding the BCD files and see if you are able to boot the PC using
    SSD.

Kindly follow the steps below to rebuild the BCD.

    1. Create a bootable media and boot the PC using the media.
    2. On the Install Windows screen, select Next >
      Repair your computer.
    3. On the System Recovery Options screen, select
      Troubleshoot
      > Advanced options > Command Prompt.
    4. Now type in the commands and hit enter: BOOTREC /FIXMBR

      BOOTREC /FIXBOOT

      BOOTREC /scanos

      BOOTREC /rebuildbcd
    5. Restart the PC.

If the issue persists, please get back to us with the results of the troubleshooting steps to assist you further.

SSD boot drive corrupted after Oct 10 failed update

Yes my ssd boot sector is no longer recognized after Oct 10 2018 failed update. Windows 10 Pro. Samsung 680 evo 500GB will no longer boot. I can use the drive as a storage drive still works like that. It is formatted in dynamic mode sectors and no provisioning

(Ack) this might have saved me. I still have the original 100GB boot ssd and may be able to mirror the boot sector to restore it to bootable drive. Have to look at doing this still. Yes it's recognized in bios. No I don't have the iOS on disk was downloaded.
Dana I use a USB or internet to restore the boot sector? Or any other suggestions would help.

SSD Boot sector lost but still able to read the files in the SSD

    Missing Boot Sector

Hello, I have gotten into some complications with my Windows 10 install with missing a boot sector after performing these steps:-

    1. Cloned my Windows installation with Acronis True Image tool from my hard drive to my m.2 SSD

    2. Deleted partitions and formatted the hard drive, to be used as storage

    3. Result: Missing boot manager error

Is there a way to transplant a working boot sector in my m.2 SSD from either the hard drive or from a bootable USB stick without performing another format and OS install on the drive?

Help would be much appreciated, thank you so much.
