SSD dead - install OS on remaining HDD without deleting everything?

    Hey!
My SSD died earlier today, and I'm left trying to figure out what to do with my computer now that it doesn't have an OS. Is there an easy way to install preferably Windows 7 on my remaining HDD without deleting everything on it?
Sorry if this question seems like a stupid one, but I don't have enough knowledge about the installation of OS's.

    Thanks in advance!

Edit; I got the SSD working again by baking it in the oven for 8 minutes at 385F. *really

    :)

  2. Windows 10 destroyed my computer

    remove HDD / SSD

    start system without it

power off and install new HDD / SSD

use the win 7 recovery or installation media for your system

after win 7 is installed and working

rescue your files from the dead windows oranguten installation

Fresh installation of windows 10 onto SSD

I've recently bought a laptop which came with the OS installed on the HDD. However, I've bought a M.2 SSD that I want to load the operating system onto and boot from.

I've tried cloning the hard drive to the SSD to fresh installing windows 10 onto the SSD except neither works. When I tried cloning the HDD, the files appeared on the SSD, but in the BIOS settings it wasn't recognized as a bootable drive. On the other hand,
when I tried to do a fresh install of the OS onto the SSD, it automatically re-installed on the HDD without giving me an option.

Some help would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Chris

Hi, provided you make sufficient unallocated space on your HDD using e.g. the boot disk for a partition manager such as Minitools Partition Wizard boot CD (free), you should then be able to install Windows.

(Congratulations on your SSD -nice recipe- I prefer making cakes or casseroles in the oven...*Biggrin)

Yeah I definitely prefer cakes over SSD's, they smell a lot better out of the oven haha *chuckle

Thank you for the tip though, I'll bookmark their website!

Why does cooking your SSD repair it?

Reviving a dead SSD : techsupportmacgyver

depends on type of failure.. and of course it now comes with a 6 month guarantee....*Biggrin

Question is, would you rely on it?

Remember hard disks and freezers? Now, can I find a use for my microwave...
