Windows 10: SSD failed, recovered files - need to move from WindowsApps on SSD to new computer HDD.

My computer hard disk failed. I am trying to recover files from that drive. I need to move a file from WindowsApps on that drive to a new drive on my new laptop. I am running into problems with permissions even though I have taken possession of the container... it still says I need permission from myself and will not allow me to complete the copy. Suggestions welcomed - Solutions needed and appreciated.

Restore an existing windows 10 system image not to the old failing HDD but to a new SSD

I don't want to do that just yet, cause I want to have 2 systems: one running on an old failing internal HDD, and a new one running on a new external SSD.

Besides, replacing the HDD with the SSD on this computer will be a pain, so I want to take one step at a time.

I don't understand why you changed the boot order in your BIOS.

When you image or clone an HDD, and restore the image or clone to an SSD, you've got an identical copy of your computer on a different hard drive. Nothing has changed, really. So the next step is to remove the HDD from your computer and replace it with the
SSD, then carry on as normal.

 

OS on new SSD, keep existing data on HDD and use as external drive

use steps you suggested, there should be no problem.

Just replace HDD with SSD first then run installation. Do not forget to remove Windows files from HDD after the end of a process.
