    SSD failure message

    Greetings and salutations.

Well, while I was moving a sub-directory into another sub-directory, by using FastStone image viewer, there was this error message, remembering one part of this little window/message that scared me like a poisonous spider: "SSD failure". What happened next was that directory, intended to be moved into a certain directory, was moved into another directory, but everything runs smoothly as though nothing happened. According to a certain tool, health of my SSD is - - - perfect. It appears, it fell down and then thankfully raised up, just like a man. So, should I now live in fear and worry a lot that, since this was perhaps a warning sign and a symptom of a serious problem, my SSD will eventually fail completely and out of the blue, just like that, w/o any additional warning, that is to say, it is assumable that a certain application caused this error/SSD failure or, which is infinitely worse, a certain hardware component! An acquaintance of mine checked SSD only, not all components, which was a bit rude of him and silly of me since I didn't insist. So:

    1) Should I reinstall FastStone image viewer, following where's smoke there's fire logic?

    2) Should I strive to check all the components to see whether or not They are running smoothly, even though now I have no tool to do the check, and this is the new generation of computer (6th if I'm not mistaken) a little over a year old? Any freeware tool for checking all components out there?

    3) Should I worry a little or a lot and turn and toss in my bed even though, for now, everything runs perfectly?

    4) Is it normal/usual to get now and then, or once, a message like that (SSD failure)?

    Thank You.

    :)

    SSD Failure

Last year I replaced an aging hard drive in my Mum's pc with a slightly less aging OCZ Vertex 2 SSD.

This morning she was using the pc just fine then left it until this evening when it suddenly would not boot and reported sata drive failure.

Perhaps I shouldn't be too disappointed considering it was last generation technology.

What should be my first steps in diagnosing this fault? If the drive has failed I may as well suggest it be replaced with a more modern one which I'm sure has better longevity. I have an external drive reader which can take any sata device. This should allow me to see if the data is accessible.

In my own rig I have a Samsung 840 EVO 250 which has served me well so I may suggest she gets the same unless you guys have alternative suggestions.

    SSD Failure

Your SSD failed could be any number of things first I would re seat all cables on the drive. Second substitute another drive in the system and see if it shows up in BIOS or try the original drive in a another machine and see if the system can see the drive. The sata controller could also be bad on the mother board in that case no drive will work.

    SSD failure message

    Is my SSD dead?

It happened about a month ago so I'm can't remember the exact details of how it died. I think I restarted the PC and the message was there I had no OS. Today I popped in my mirrored HD and was up running. I hocked up the SSD and restarted the PC but no sign of the SSD. Power is on (Zalman “hot swap” case has a power LED for each disk). I tried to find it in DOS but the drive is no where to be found. Any suggestions for a next step? It 1½ month past RMA but the important thing is to retrieve some of the files.
