  1. SSD gets very slow after being used at 100% for a short amount of time

Hello. I've just built a new PC and I got a brand new Kingston NV2 1 TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe, M.2 for it. After installing Windows 10 and doing all the updates, bios updates, motherboard, gpu and cpu drivers, etc I tried installing a large game on the SSD. At first it had good performance but in the span of 1h-1.5h it decreased A LOT. I'm talking 100% usage at 2MB/s. It goes to 0% after being idle for a while but even opening the File Explorer makes it jump back to 100%I tried all the things you find when searching for disk at 100% issues, chkdsk, windows memory diagnostics, updating drivers, memtest

    :)

    slow ssd

    Hi,

Slow SSD performance can be caused by several factors like Hybernation mode and Superfetch service.

As an initial troubleshooting step, try disabling Hibernate mode since it is unnecessary for the SSD system as it takes too much time to boot from it.

    • Open Command Prompt (Admin).
    • Enter the administrator credentials once prompted.
    • In the Command Prompt window, type or copy and paste this command:

      powercfg -h off
    • Press Enter.

Note: Once Hibernate is already disabled, you can also free up some space to improve its performance.

We also recommenddisabing Superfetch as one way to optimize the SSD performance:

    • Press Windows key + R to open the Run
      dialog box.
    • Type services.msc and press Enter.
    • Scroll down and right-click on Superfetch.
    • Select Stop.

Update us with the outcome so we can provide further assistance.

*If you think this was useful, feel free to "mark it as an answer" to help those who are facing the same problem.*

  3. SSD 100% active time without using anything

    Hi,
I have upgraded my pc to below specs

    • Operating System: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (10.0, Build 19045) (19041.vb_release.191206-1406)
    • System Manufacturer: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.
    • System Model: B660M D2H DDR4
    • BIOS: F4 (type: UEFI)
    • Processor: 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-12400F (12 CPUs), ~2.5GHz
    • RAM: 16384MB RAM
    • VGA: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070
    • HDD: Disk 1 (DSSD gets very slow after being used at 100% for a short amount of time :) ST1000DM010-2EP102
    • SSD: (which windows installed on) Disk 0 (C: ESSD gets very slow after being used at 100% for a short amount of time :) Acer SSD SA100 240GB
(Note: Initially installed Windows 11, then switched to Windows 10 to see if this will fix the problem but without any improvement)

Whenever I turn on my PC, it takes a long time up to 2-5 minutes to start up. Any file or program also takes a significant amount of time to respond. When I check the Task Manager to monitor my SSD's performance, in the Process tab, disk usage seems normal, ranging from 0% to 40%, even during lag and freezing periods. However, in the Performance tab, it frequently spikes to 100% and remains that way.

I've tried several solutions, such as running scans with Malwarebytes, disabling known services like SysMain and Windows Search, deleting temporary files (%temp%), among others. Unfortunately, I cannot upload a screenshot here due to a "failed to upload" error.

I hope someone would help me fixing this endless slow ssd problem

    100% disk utilisation slowing laptop

    Hi Mara May,

Thank you for your assistance, I have had to type this in WORD and copy paste into the thread here due to all things through Chrome and Edge are so slow.

    • Windows is always up to date with all updates.
    • Norton Utilities is also up to date
    • I have already done the following:
      • Tested HDD with HP Startup Menu and disk is 100% in order
      • Carried out SFC scan and corrupt files repaired
      • Did a DSIM restore health and no issues found-Disk utilisation is now generally below 50%
      • When using Chrome browser, to access this chat for example, its very slow with Disk utilisation at 10% or so but Memory at 55% with Chrome using most of it always.
      • So the problem is partially resolved except for when using Chrome
      • With Edge the memory goes up to 62% and HDD 100%
      • Did you suggested :Methods” 1, 2, 3, 5, 6
    • I have not done a “clean boot” as it scares me at this stage.
It seems to be an issue between Chrome/Edge browsers as when I use Office 365’s Outlook, Word etc, the speed is now OK. Also the Disk utilisation seems to be generally acceptable but memory high that may be slowing the laptop down?

I have had issues with Teams simultaneously in that it’s so slow but with Zoom its normal, coincidence?

I look forward to your further suggestions.

    Regards
