    @Acess Denied

Using CrystalDiskInfo, as long as the S.M.A.R.T. status has no write or other failures and the Heath Status is well above 10% you have nothing to worry about. All SSD manufacturers calculate the life expectancy a bit differently. Go read the manual for CDI and you understand what I mean.

"This SSD has been in use since Oct 2013 and on 24/7 for about 95% of the time."

There is no way of predicting a random failure which might occur at any time, obviously this is more likely after 5 years of continuous use. Not just the memory cells but the associated electronics on the drive.

"So are you saying my SSD with similar numbers as the OPs, is getting old and will fail soon? "
No, that's not the point at all.
That just illustrates why benchmark tests and SMART data are limited. It cannot predict some random failure the next day or N years on.
It is a matter of statistics, your young SSD has less chance of failure than one 5 years old with more use, and probably using older technology.
    You are ignoring failure statistics.

  3. No I'm not ignoring anything, it was just a question. I have read all the probability distribution curves for most drives by most manufacturers for many scenarios and combination of those, involving temperatures, startup cycles, reads, writes, age, online time etc.. I also told that different manufacturers calculate their drive life expectancy differently. For some physical age is the factor, for others the amount of writes is.

My point is that as long as SMART data values has nothing to report except equal numbers, and there's more than 10% health left, one should not have to worry much about a failure except for normal hardware fails that can occur after 1minute or 20year usage. It all depends on which drive you got, some fail out of the box and others seems to never die.

  4. SSD Life Left Question

Last night I took the most recent image of my SSD... then I decided to partition my fastest other drive and make a 200GB first partition. I restored a complete drive image of my windows there. The first part of the drive matches my OS drive exactly including all of the smaller partitions. I plan to keep testing the life every few days to get an idea. It is virtually impossible to replace the drive right now, so I have to come up with other options like this.

Will test boot this other disk sometime this morning. (after breakfast and coffee)

(I will mark this as solved, thanks all for the input here. It is nice to have a 2nd, 3rd etc opinion when you see something like this)

  5. Ok, the backup plan boots into windows. It was slower than all hell though. At least I have a backup plan and will continue to monitor the SSD.

  6. Hahah, did you stick the clone on a HDD? That will be really slow compared to an SSD.

Because you swapped hardware that could also cause first and a few consecutive boots to be a bit slower but should improve over time.

  7. Yea I slapped the clone on my newest 3TB HDD. It is blazing fast for a HDD. I can image my entire SSD to it in under 2 min (31GB). I glad you confirmed my assumption it would get better.

I ran HD Sentinel again and the SOB says 128 days still. I think its bugged. The other two programs each went down by one day in the estimation. I am prepared for the worst now, all I have to do is change the boot order in BIOS to have a working windows if my SSD fails. I plan on replacing the image on that HDD (C:\ only, leaving the other partitions as they are) couple times a week. That way I won't be booting into last month or anything.

EDIT: the 128 days it told me was 3 days ago. still same

Since you cloned an SSD to HDD, also make sure to defragment the HDD, files could be way out of order and chopped up all over the place. SSDs does not have this issue so defragmenting is useless on those.

  9. Will do! I planned on doing that the first time I booted into the HDD by needing it.
