    SSD Listed as a HDD???

So I have this really specific issue with windows and my SSD's and the microsoft store. I want to try the amazon app store but it requres i have a SSD installed which i have 2 installed. My problem is windows lists them as a HDD technically. I know they work because i get the speed benefits from the ssds, my windows loads extremely fast, and the games i install on the ssd also load extremely fast. I also use one of the ssd as a windows boot loader, so my windows installation is on one. The problem is since they are technically listed as a HDD, the windows store thinks i dont meet the minimum

    :)

  2. How to change a HDD being listed as SSD

    Hi Peter,

Welcome to Microsoft Community and thank you for your interest in Windows 10.

I will definitely assist you, as per your query.

Based on the description, please be informed that manually we cannot change the SSD to HDD. However, let’s try running hardware troubleshooter and check if it helps. Follow the below steps:

    • Press Windows + X keys on the keyboard and select Control Panel.

    • Type Troubleshooting in the search bar on the Control Panel.

    • Click on Small icon on the left navigation pane.

    • Click on Troubleshooting and click on
      Hardware and Device.

    • Click on Advanced on the Hardware troubleshooter dialog box and click on Run as administrator (Enter the credentials if required).

    • Click on Next and follow onscreen instruction complete the Hardware troubleshooter.
If the issue remain the same after hardware troubleshooting, I suggest you to go to BIOS and check what is HDD is listed on BIOS and let us know.

Hope the above information helps. If you need further assistance with Windows, let us know and will be glad to help.

Windows Optimise Drives Lists SSD as HDD. How to correct this?

I have a system with two RAIDs of SSD drives. Windows 10 Optimise Drives correctly list one as Media Type SSD. But it lists the other as HDD. This means it does not schedule a retrim on the drive but defragmentation. Microsoft does not recommend that an SSD be defragmented as it may be detrimental.

How can I correct the Media Type to SSD? There must be a setting in the registry somewhere?

    I have tried

    winsat formal

This does not change the Media Type.

    Also

    Optimize-Volume -DriveLetter D -ReTrim -WhatIf

    This responds with

"Optimize-Volume: The volume optimization operation requested is not supported by the hardware backing the volume."

Perhaps because Windows thinks it is an HDD.

    Get-PhysicalDisk

reports that the MediaType is 'Unspecified'

The only thing I have been able to do is turn off the Scheduled Optimisation. There must be a solution to this?

  4. SSD Listed as a HDD???

Post your HDD and SSD Speeds!

Wonderful idea. Sort of had this idea myself while updating the list.

    Will apply this update now!

    UPDATE APPLIED!

List is now in order of fastest to slowest, as it was, but is now split into 4 different sections! SSD's, SSD's in RAID, HDD's, HDD's in RAID! *Smile SSD Listed as a HDD??? :)
