Windows 10: SSD Randomly disappears after certain restarts

Hello,Recently I've bought a new laptop and replaced my old one. I took out the old laptop's M.2 NVME SSD out and inserted it as a secondary NVME on my new laptop.At first everything seemed alright, but after a couple of restarts it started disappearing from File Explorer and Disk Management. Using PowerShell or Disk-part also did not show the drive.In the Device Manager there is no sign of the drive under the "Disk drives" category but there are two NVME drivers under "Storage controllers". One cannot be disabled and the other can be, and that's how I figured that its related to my missing dr

Most used apps list in start menu appears and disappears randomly upon restart.

When i restart my windows 10 pro the most used apps list in the start menu disappears and appears randomly. sometimes after a restart it disappears and when i lunch any app it gets added to the most used list and then when i restart again it appears empty
again.

And in other times after i restart it appears normally with a full list of my most used apps from before. how to fix this annoying issue?

 

Randomly disappearing taskbar and start icons

I have tried doing fresh installs of Windows 10 multiple times but I always face this issue where items in the start menu and/or taskbar jump lists disappear randomly. I am attaching a screenshot for this. This also happens when after I close any game (Eg. Battlefield 4, Tomb Raider etc).




The icons, though invisible are still working if I move my cursor over them and click them. Restarting explorer.exe fixed the problem temporarily.

 

Disappearing SSD & failing Windows Updates

I appreciate your effort on this. However, to help you with the appropriate troubleshooting steps, please reply with the following details:

• What is the make and model of your computer?
  
• Which build version of Windows is installed on the computer? To check type:
  winver in the search bar on the Taskbar and hit Enter.
  

Method 1: Updating Storage drivers



It could be an issue with the drivers that is why the SSD is not getting detected after a restart. We can try updating the drivers and see if that helps. Please follow the steps mentioned below to update the drivers:

1. Press Windows key + X, to open Context menu.
   
2. Click on Device Manager.
   
3. Expand Disk drives.
   
4. Right click on the driver and select Update driver.
   
5. If prompted for restart, please restart the PC.
   

You can also go ahead and check for Storage drivers from the computer manufacturer’s website. If there are storage drivers available, please download and install them.



Method 2: Updating firmware for the SSD



This issue could occur if the latest firmware for the SSD is not installed. You can download latest firmware from the SSD manufacturer website and install it.



For update issue, I would suggest you to please refer the troubleshooting steps in the article

Fix Windows Update errors and see if that helps in resolving the issue.

You may take a backup of the data before performing a clean installation.
