    I've looked into adding registry keys before so I am confident I can just add this in since I can go through all the sub folders to find Devices at the end. my only question is when I make a new addition am I making a new Key, String Value, Binary Value, DWORD, QWORD, Multi or Expandable String Value?

    I figured out how to add it, I just saved the text file as .reg with what you wanted. I restarted and there's no change. Thanks for the help though!

    I'm sorry it doesn't work for you. It works on my system, I use Marvell SATA3/RAID add-on card in conjunction with "Standard SATA/AHCI Controller" driver. It should work for many HW controllers but only when you use the mentioned generic driver. You can see it in the picture although my system isn't English.

    Ya I don't use Marvel as far as I know.

    I guess I'll try the beta chipset update from ASUS and see how that goes since everyone's out of ideas.

    Well I downloaded the beta chipset drivers from ASUS and the SATA drivers on there for Windows 10, and the icon's still in my system tray. I wonder if I can just uninstall the Portable Device in my Device Manager, because when I right click on it in there I have the option of Disabling and Uninstalling. I know which one is for my Terabyte drive because I named it that, the only other one on there besides System Reserved is WPD FileSystem Volume Driver, which I'm not entirely sure is the portable version of my C drive that I also want to eliminate but I assume it is.

    @Redwolf:
    2 things:
    Did you clean install your OS, or is it an upgrade?

    Second:
    paste this in a Run box and see what the result is:
    explorer shell:::{a6482830-08eb-41e2-84c1-73920c2badb9}

    I did a clean install. This problem showed up back when I had Windows 7 Pro, which was also a clean install.

    Ew it shows the whole drive as removable, not just a partition. Guess my uninstalling idea is out the window.

    If you do an upgrade install, chances are only the actual removable drives will show up in the system tray.

    Not necessarily.
    I did an upgrade install on one of my machines and had the SSD show up as removable afterward. It already had an AHCI driver installed from Windows 7 so after a little head scratching I figured out a way to uninstall the driver and reinstall it (a Windows 7 driver too). That worked.

    Try uninstalling the Intel Rapid Storage technology, then recheck the BIOS to insure no hot-swap is selected........

    I have read where this has solved the problem you are describing.......

    Hope this helps...

    I tried that link above and it didn't change anything. Thanks for the suggestion though.

    I'm curious if there's some other registry edit I could do to treat it as internal, since people using various other SATA controllers like Marvel have had success with that.

    You've got to find a SATA AHCI driver that works.

    Looking at the drivers offered for your motherboard it is clear (to me) that Asus wants you to use the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver.

    There has been some indication that I have noticed that Windows 10 can sometimes not play nice with the IRST driver on some systems. I can't tell if this is because people are installing the wrong version of IRST for their particular motherboard, or installing an older IRST driver for a previous operating system that is for their motherboard and not using compatibility mode.

    There seems to be a consensus among Windows 10 users that this problem is simply an annoyance, and since it does not affect performance it can be simply ignored. If that is also the attitude of the Microsoft folks then there will not be a big push to correct it anytime soon. If installing IRST does not correct your problem then you may be stuck with doing as you are told: just live with it.

    In the device properties list, the hard drives list both a hard drive and portable device, of which I can disable and uninstall the drivers. Since as far as I know the portable devices don't do anything, I figure I can attempt to disable and uninstall the drivers.

    My only question is if I back up my computer will I be able to reverse something like that?
