    " Defragment and Optimise Drives "

    So I can under the " defragment and optimise drives " box, optimise my SSD safely because it is only running the TRIM command and NOT defragging the SSD correct ?

    Side note, it says for my SSD, Current Status - Needs optimisation (376 days since last run)

    You are certain that it is not going to defrag the SSD, it is only going to run the TRIM ?

    What's the trimming phase in Defragment and Optimise Drives?

    There's a few things I've forgotten to mention.

    Firstly, uh, I'm running a 4GB hard drive, not an SSD. Boo-hoo.

    And since trimming is what you'd use to keep an SSD in check, I'm confused.

    1) The issue has only happened once - when I launched the thread, that is.

    2) No recent changes at all (I sincerely hope).

    3) It's only STATED in the Optimise Drives windows, after defragmentation and consolidation.

    I wouldn't say it's an issue, more so a bug or even a hidden helper.

    The solutions came to no avail.

    So, if it's meant to help an SSD, what does it do to a hard drive?

    Is WesternDigital Dashboard needed to trim a SSD?

    The checkbox in the WD software may well be to have that software manually initiate a TRIM on a regular basis.

    If TRIM is indeed enabled in Windows then it will be run on a schedule as the Disk Optimisation tool (the same tool that occasionally defragments HDDs) runs. Instead of defragmentation the tool will simply TRIM SSDs.

    If you go to your disk properties and then Disk Optimisation you will see what type of disk it is and what it will do:

    You'll notice that it shows "optimise" rather than "defragment" for SSDs.

    When you click "optimise" for a drive it will say "25% trimmed" and so on instead of "xx% defragmented". The process of TRIMming should not take particularly long.

    Your command shows that TRIM should already be enabled.
