  1. SSD upgrade while preserving Symbolic Links??

Hello everyone! I have two SSD slots in my laptop. I have two ssds in them, both 256 gb. The primary drive has about 100 gb used while the secondary drive is almost full. I have many symbolic links for many different music production related programs and files that pretty much migrates everything that auto installs onto the primary onto the secondary drive while allowing the programs to function correctly and keeps the primary drive some what cleaner. I have been under the impression that keeping that primary drive clean and not clutter is better for the PC and I need all the optimization I can get to keep the main program and the other tools running efficiently with power when I need it. I used a tool that migrates whole folders and creates the symlink as I'm not code savy. Anyways, the secondary drive is now full of stuff that is symlinked from the primary.

I now want to upgrade that secondary drive to accommodate more space, but seeing as I only have one extra slot (primary obviously needs to stay in), is there any way I can achieve this migration and preserve the symbolic links? The only thing that comes to mind is using a professional migration tool, Cloning the secondary drive onto an external ssd (or more likely a cheap hdd), removing the secondary drive, putting the new one in, and then restoring the drive onto the new larger secondary. Would the symlinks be preserved (currently the secondary drive is D: would the new one also be recognized as D which would allow the symlinks to still be relevant as the paths ways are for example C: Program Files -> D: Program Files) ? Would I be able to turn of the laptop and remove the secondary drive and replace it with out losing my image on the hdd?

Sorry its a long post and I really appreciate you if you got this far!!! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Symbolic link (Junction/s), how-to mklink? Please help with Junction?

Hi all, having been a member at Seven then Ten forums for a fair while I'm hoping to find a straight answer here..? Apologies in advance if this is too verbose.
Windows 10 system booting from (UEFI) NVME with 2xSSDs + 2 MHDDs for storage...

An application (Xperia Companion) which will not let me select or personalise the location for saving backups of my cellular phone data...

Think I found a fair definition of the differences at the Computer hope site which would suggest it's a Junction I need:
I want Xperia companion to save backups to F:\Sony Backups NOT the default C:\Users\GD\Documents\Sony. Would the Junction (link) allow me to to fulfill my wants and could someone please demonstrate the mklink commands needed?

    with thanks and regards,
    Dave

Firefox does not show a particular link symbol

After the recent update of Firefox, something has changed.
Accessing my router, a particular window shows a symbol/pictue, which link directs to another window in the router.
After the recent Firefox update, that symbol/picture changed into three dots, hardly visible. They still direct to the appropriate window.

Using Firefox in my tablet (Android) the original link symbol is still shown.
Any suggestion? Some bug in the update?

  4. SSD upgrade while preserving Symbolic Links??

    Symbolic Links and Windows 10

I recently upgraded from Windows 7 Pro 64 bit to Windows 10 Pro 64 bit.

I have a small SSD and a larger HDD, with several partitions. In Windows 7 I created several symbolic links,

using mklink in command prompt (as administrator). After the upgrade to Windows 10, all my symbolic links

were intact. However, now when I try to make a new symbolic link, it is not successful.

    For example:

mklink /d “C:\Program Files (x86)\ Infogrames Interactive” “P:\ Infogrames Interactive”

    successfully created the symbolic link.

However when I open it, the following message appears:

“C:\Program Files (x86)\ Infogrames Interactive is unavailable.”

Opening Properties and File Location gets:

“The item ‘Infogrames Interactive’ that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved,

so this shortcut will no longer work.”

    I tried:

    mklink /d “C:\Program Files (x86)\ Infogrames Interactive” “P:\ ”

which created a functioning symbolic link to drive P:\, but that isn't really of much use.

If later, I decide to do a clean install, I will lose all the Symbolic links that were created with

Windows 7 and my SSD will get very full.

    1. Is anyone else having the same problem?

    2. Has anyone found a solution to this problem?

Thanks for any help you can offer.
