Thank you very much for the interest shown to my query.

"If you have a partition(s) dedicated to large media and/or archive files, max out the cluster size when formatting (use command-line Format, not the GUI based one) and, if the files aren't difficult to restore in case of
an error, use FAT32 for lowest overhead. While you're messing about with that, you might as well try to figure out how to line up your clusters with the physical sectors of the SSD's."

    • For my files, I have a dedicated 2TB WD hard disk. Almost half of it is used up in discreetly named folders.
    • These files and system are regularly backed up every month using Macrium Reflect or Acronis True image.
    • Please let me know how to format using command prompt ? [(use command-line Format, not the GUI based one)]
    • Does Fat 32 format have any advantage over NTFS ?
    • Please also clarify "while you are mess..............SSD's"
    with best regards

  3. Clone from SSD to SSD and HDD to SSD on Windows 10

    Hello,

This is a two part question, I am currently running Windows 10, I wish to put a new SSD in my computer going from a 128gb to 240gb(minimum) I am looking for the best way to do this with Windows 10.

I then wish to put the old SSD into my girlfriends PC to help hers speed up. They are both running Windows 10 and I don't know if windows 10 has built in function or whether there's easy to use software for this.

    Thanks in advance.

Hi, the main question is what do you intend to do with it?

If you are planning to replace an existing HDD with Windows on it, there are guides as to how to do that and configure your BIOS appropriately.

If it has software that comes with it, you should install it, as in the future there could be firmware updates for it, and the software will either let you know to fetch it, or will download it for you.

Hello, the article is a general one. Please read it. Using AHCI means your SSD performs faster. Check the setting in your BIOS.

    Information about AHCI.

Please read the article, or use a search engine. Search engines can be very helpful...

If it's not enabled and your BIOS supports it this tells you how to enable it. Note: technical.

You only really need to use it to check for firmware upgrades(bottom selection) and to check SMART if you get a warning. Let Windows just take care of the rest.
