  1. SSH asking for password even i have private key

    Hi,

I am trying to establish connection to server windows machine using RSA key pairs. I have generated key pairs and and also copied my public key to users/myuser/.ssh/authorized_keys and also set the permissions by executing below command.

    ssh --% user1@*** Email address is removed for privacy *** powershell -c $ConfirmPreference = 'None'; Repair-AuthorizedKeyPermission C:\Users\user1\.ssh\authorized_keys

When i am trying to connect to that server using ssh agent or by using putty its asking to type password and it is not doing any key based Authentication. I have tried different approaches but clue less. Can any one help me to tell what i am doing wrong here?

    Thanks,

    Venkata

    :)

  2. hansal Win User

SSH private key auth on Windows 10 Bash

i have some Linux installed on by Laptop and use SSH with private key authentication to connect to a server. Recently, I installed Win10 with the bash developer extension on by desktop. Since I only have one user account on this server, and hence only on key, i simply moved by private key file into the respective directory of my windows bash.

However, whenever I open a new bash instance and try to connect to the server, the error message: 'Permission denied (publickey).' is returned.
    My current fix are the following steps: exec ssh-agent bash; ssh-add;

While I could obviously add this into .profile, I would be required to enter the passphrase whenever I open bash.

Does anyone has some suggestions how to fix this more properly, s.t. I only have to enter my passphrase whenever I connect to the server and that I do not have to reinitialize my ssh key in every bash session.

    kind regards

  3. how do I export certificates and/or private keys?

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community. Let me assist you.

I suggest you to follow the below steps to export a certificate with a private key

    1. Open the Certificates console for the user, computer, or service you want to manage.

    2. In the console pane, select the certificate store and container holding the certificate that you want to export.

    3. In the details pane, click the certificate you want to export.

    4. On the Action menu, point to
All Tasks, and then click Export.

    5. In the Certificate Export Wizard, click
Yes, export the private key. (This option will appear only if the private key is marked as exportable and you have access to the private key.)

    6. Under Export File Format, do one or all of the following, and then click
    Next.

    • To include all certificates in the certification path, select the
Include all certificates in the certification path if possible check box.
    • To enable strong protection, select the Enable strong protection (requires IE 5.0, NT 4.0 SP4 or above) check box.
    • To delete the private key if the export is successful, select the
Delete the private key if the export is successful
      check box.
7.In Password, type a password to encrypt the private key you are exporting. In
Confirm password, type the same password again, and then click
    Next
    .

    8. In File name, type a file name and path for the PKCS #12 file that will store the exported certificate and private key, click
    Next, and then click Finish.

  4. SSH asking for password even i have private key

Ubuntu on Windows 10 - SSH “Permissions xxxx for private key are too open

I have .pem file located on local disk C "c/private-key.pem"
And I have a soft link to it on Ubuntu subsystem "~/.ssh/private-key.pem -> /mnt/c/private-key.pem"

And when I'm trying to shh some remote machine from Ubuntu subsystem, I got :

It was started after 1803 update for Windows.

I was trying to use chmod 400 for key on C drive and in ./ssh folder on subsystem. And was trying to set owner just to me and remove all other users from security panel on Windows for this file key. But i got "Permissions XXXX for '/home/artur/.ssh/private-key.pem' are too open" or "Permission denied" all the time.

Can any body help me and explain how keys permissions should be configured on Windows and Ubuntu subsystem?
