Windows 10: SSH into Microsoft Linked Windows 11 account not working

Is it possible to SSH into a Windows 11 machine that is linked to a Microsoft account? If yes, thoughts on what I am doing wrong? If it isn't possible, is there a work-around?I carefully I think followed the following instructions and meet all the listed prerequisites:https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/administration/openssh/openssh_install_firstuse?tabs=guiI am using the Windows build-in OpenSSH server "optional feature". Setup looked like it worked, but I get "Permission denied, please try again" when I attempt to log in. The command I am using to attempt login is "ssh userid

SSH into Microsoft Linked Windows account

Hi there,

Is it possible to SSH into a Microsoft linked account on a Windows 11 machine? I am using the Windows build-in OpenSSH server "optional feature" however I am having troubles SSHing into the account. While SSHing into a regular local Windows user account works I'm not able to login to a Windows account with a Microsoft account linked to it. Perhaps the perameter of the command will be different other than "ssh user@IP"?

Connecting to a Windows 10 system that is linked to a Microsoft account using SSH is not possible natively. The SSH server available in Windows 10, OpenSSH-Server, is not intended to work with Microsoft accounts. It only supports local accounts or Active Directory accounts.

To authenticate through SSH, you will need to establish a local account-based SSH server on the Windows 10 system. Afterward, you can connect to it using the local user account credentials rather than the Microsoft account.

ssh tunneling not working on new windows 11

I noticed that you have the new Windows 11 22H2 installed, the various services and settings should be different from your previous system.



Perhaps you can check the status of the service related to SSH first.

1. Type Service in the Search Box and find SSH-related services. For example, OpenSSH Authentication Agent.
   
2. Adjust its status and startup type, restart the computer, and verify that the problem persists.
