Windows 10: Start button and task bar buttons have disappeared

Yesterday my Dell laptop locked up. It has blue screened about once a day since doing an update in Windows insider win 11. Assuming it was about to do the same, I held the power button to power off the machine as no bsod had appeared after a couple of minutes.The machine appeared to boot up, showing the Dell splash screen and then requesting I enter my log in pin. After this, I got the little spinning circle and preparing windows on my screen. That stayed like this for ten or more mins.Finally, I get a windows desktop. There is a blank bar at the bottom of the screen, but as my title says, the

Start button & task bar...

I have Windows 10. Have had this computer for almost 3 years and it has worked fine until now. Start button is there but I cannot click on it. Also, the task bar has disappeared. Can this be fixed?

 

Add a button to the address bar.

I would like to add the Zoom button to my new Edge address bar. Have found the following how to do it on the web but they don't work like the instructions say.

1. Open Microsoft Edge.
2. Click the Settings and more menu button on the top-right corner. (I assume that is the three dots in a row)
3. Select the Show in toolbar sub-menu. (Don't see 'Show in toobar)
4. Click the action button that you want to add or remove from the toolbar.
