Windows 10: Start button does not work after MS November 2020 updates

Some Microsoft Office and Windows update were applied and installed today on my company PC that were released from November 2020. After the first four were installed and required a reboot, my START button will not respond to anything when I click on it. I can only RIGHT click to get the Search, Device manager, etc. The list of my programs when you left or regular click will not open.


I have tried ALL the options to restore this that are suggested online, with the exception of resetting my computer which is NOT an option.


I know this is tied to the updates that were downloaded and installed, I work in support and there are a few others in my company with the same issue on their pcs after they also did the download and install of these updates.

Start Button displaying but not working


The start button was working until there was a forced reboot (power failure). Then left click (normal click) over the start button does absolutely nothing. Right click brings up a menu but "programs" and also "settings" are missing and not included on this list. Search or Task View buttons do not work either with "normal" click. Does anyone have any suggestion or fixes?

Inbuilt camera not working after November update

Given the information you've provided where you state that you got your camera working prior to the November update, it sounds to me like the November update reinstalled a driver that doesn't work with your camera. Most likely the camera driver got replaced
with the generic webcam driver. I'd suggest you rollback to your previous driver and see if that corrects the problem. To do this:

How to rollback to previous driver:

• Right click on start button>Device Manager
• Under Imaging devices locate your camera, you may need to click the ">" to expand the list to see your camera
• Right click on the device name>Properties
• Click on Driver Tab
• Click the Roll Back Driver button

If that doesn't work, you can manually choose another driver already installed on your system and see if that works. To do this:

• Right click on start button>Device Manager
• Under Imaging devices locate your camera, you may need to click the ">" to expand the list to see your camera
• Right click on the device name>Properties
• Click "Update Driver" button
• Click "Browse my computer for driver software"
• Click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
• Select an older driver

You may need try several drivers to find the right one. Let us know if you've resolved the issue after you try these steps.
