Windows 10: Start button, search box, and settings wont open

As stated in the subject, when I click the start button, it does not open. When I click into the search box, nothing happens. I also cannot get to the settings. So how do I fix this issue?

To turn off windows updates in windows 7 follow these steps:

Click the start button, in the search box type in 'windows updates', click on 'windows update'
in the search results list, in the left side of the windows update window click 'change settings'
then in the option bar select 'Never check for updates'.

 

File search box

The file search box keeps stopping. Most of the time it is OK, then it wont let me type anything into it in any file. I have run the search and index troubleshooter with no results. It is set to start at startup and run automatically.

It will be OK at the next PC startup without me doing anything.

Any suggestions would be welcomed.

  Right click on the task bar.
  
• 
  Go to Cortana.
  
• 
  Click on show search box.
  

Now check if you are able to find search box.
