Windows 10: Start menu and Search not working + Taskbar allignment settings are missing. No I don't...

I was reading another thread with the exact same problem as myself. I could not solve my problem using the methods I found in the thread, and this problem is believed to be long since fixed and therefore the thread is closed. The problem is not fixed.

Here are the possible causes why Taskbar and Start menu don't work:

• Corrupted user profile
• Corrupted or missing system files
  

Since running SFC didn't resolve the issue, we suggest creating a new user account
to recreate your Taskbar and Start menu.

We would appreciate an update about how it went.

 

Taskbar "start menu" customization tab missing

On Windows 8.x and lower versions of Windows, you’re be able to apply customization’s to the Start Menu under the Taskbar and and Start Menu Properties which can be found when you right-click on the taskbar. On Windows 10, this setting is not available when you select the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties on the taskbar and in the most recent version of Windows 10, you won’t see the properties at all. The Start Menu settings in the taskbar properties has been removed in Windows 10 therefore you can’t find the Start Menu or Taskbar settings as you would on earlier versions of Windows. This Start Menu customization setting has been moved to Settings > Personalization > Start whereas the Taskbar settings has been moved to Settings > Personalization > Taskbar. Start Menu Search Missing

Hi,

There could be changes or updates performed on your computer that caused this problem with your start menu search. Have you tried running the
Start menu troubleshooter? If you haven't yet, then we suggest running it for us to further isolate the problem. Check out

Please verify also if the search bar is enabled in the taskbar. To check, right-click the Taskbar, then navigate to
Cortana > Show search box as shown in the photo below:





If Search is still missing in the Start menu, then please run the command below in Windows PowerShell. Follow these steps:

• In the Cortana search, type in PowerShell, then right-click
  Windows PowerShell in the search results.
• At the command prompt, type in the command below and hit Enter.

Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}

powershell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $Env:SystemRoot\WinStore\AppxManifest.XML
