    i feel like ive tried everything in the book at this point.


    in my start menu, almost all of the tiles and apps have no icon, and when i click on them, they start for a few seconds and then disappear. this happens with calculator, windows store, xbox, etc.


    i just reset windows not too long ago and it didn't have this issue before that. so, naturally, i tried to reset yet again. and i am hit with "could not find the recovery environment" even though i have the original usb i installed windows 10 with.


    i have tried reinstalling the apps using the command line in powershell. i have tried sfc /scannow. i have tried turning UAC back on. i have tried defragging my disk. i have tried using ccleaner.


    i am ready to pull my hair out. super frustrating as i want to buy a game from the windows store.

    Start menu is not working on Windows 10

    I have tried till the troubleshooter and got this

    "Microsoft.Windows.ShellExperienceHost" and "Microsoft.Windows.Cortana" applications need to be installed correctly.

    Now how do install these applications

    Start menu not working

    I found the following article, ran the suggested powershell command and my start menu is working again. Here it is as I found it:
    Go to Start menu button and right click on it. This will open the contextual menu, after which you need to select Command Prompt (Admin). Once Command Prompt is open, go ahead with the following steps.

    • Type and enter: Powershell
    • Type the following: Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}

    Troubleshoot problems opening the Start menu or Cortana.
