Windows 10: Start menu closes when I type instead of searching

Sometimes when I open the start menu and start typing, the start menu closes instead of searching for the character string that I type. Why does it do this? Thanks.

Start menu search bug

If I click the start button, the start menu opens.

Typing anything automatically opens the search - so far so good.

But if I open the start menu, e.g. click on all apps and then try to search by typing any word nothing happens.

Even if I go back the search won't come back when I type any letter.

I have to close and reopen the start menu.

Therefore I think this is a bug and has to be fixed.

 

Searching in Start menu goes to IE instead of default browser (Edge) in Windows 10.

To set Microsoft Edge as the default browser when searching using Cortana, please follow the steps below. We also included screenshots for your reference.

1. Click on the Move icon at the upper right corner of Microsoft Edge.





2. Select Settings.





3. From the Settings menu, scroll down and click View advanced settings.





4. From the Advanced settings, make sure that the Have Cortana assist me in Microsoft Edge option is set to
On.
