    start menu in windows 10

I just got this little lenovo think pad and it is running windows 10 pro.

I am trying to figure out how to add the control panel as well as my pc to the start up screen when I click the icon. (sort of like in windows 7 - so that if were to right click on my pc it gives me all the information about the pc - os/ram etc. I would also like to have control panel there so that it is each to find and the my documents folder.

I figured out how to pin the control panel and this pc to the start menu but they are tiles and that is now what I want. Documents is on the left side of the start menu. Is there any way to make this start menu to show an all programs option as well instead of having to click all apps and start scrolling down like in windows 8.1?

I did find information on a few sites for customizing the start menu, but I want these items pinned to the left side of the start menu instead of as tiles. Is there anyway to do this?

    :)

  2. My start menu icons aren't showing up properly!

I have same problem, the start menu is not working. when you click it , nothing happened. Microsoft edge and store icon are missing on the taskbar.

    start menu in windows 10

I did click to open the taskbar and start menu properties but there is no tab for start menu? maybe I am trying to access that the wrong way?
I right clicked on the task bar and clicked properties - all the information I can find says to right click on a blank area of the start menu and then click on properties but I must be missing something. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi lnjr:
    Welcome to tenforums.com! *Smile

Unfortunately the 'Most used' list is limited to 6 items showing; you'll have to clear them and re-populate the list. The list changes all the time though, based on what you open! *Sad

Right click on desktop select Personalize then click once on the left side Themes then on the right side you will see Desktop Icon Settings. From there you can add the Icons to desktop.

This is not a direct answer to your question... But you can just right-click on the start icon, and a dark menu pops up, with Control Panel in it....

thanks for the information. I was sort of hoping to get it to be more like windows vista or 7 (I know I need to get use to the changes - lol)

    Thanks so very much *Smile

Hi, I think you will feel much more comfortable with Classic Shell (free) - reputed very configurable start menu..
    - you can have a fully expanded control panel if you wish
    - you can launch the universal apps from a folder in C.S.
    - you can still use the Win 10 s menu with key combination

It easily handles a traditional hierarchical start menu (folders, subfolders) - whereas the Win 10 s.m. doesn't - and can expand across the screen or behave like Win 7's.

What I really like about Classic Shell is having both menus at my finger tips just configure CS with a middle button for one of the menus. And lets not forget the start button.

If you really like the classic start menu, a 3rd. party start menu is the way to go. There's only so much you can get by tinkering with the Win 10 start menu. I use either Classic Shell or IOBit Start 8 (works fine on Win 10)

    start menu in windows 10

The 1703 build of Window-10 has more precise colour control. That makes me happy.
