  1. Start Menu not working and other assorted issues.

    Just about a year ago I bought a Lenovo Thinkpad E475. Things worked well for a while but then it went downhill. The first thing was that the start menu stopped working.

    To remedy it, I reinstalled Windows 10 this January. However, the first week all the issues came back which I found odd. So at this time here's just some of the things I noticed:

    - Start Menu doesn't work (have to start everything through windows key+r
    - Display Settings doesn't work. Get error message “This file does not have an app associated with it for performing this action.”
    - Double clicking on pictures results in error message (File System Error(-2018374635)
    - Clicking on links in MS Outlook results in error message (Something unexpected went wrong with this URL)

    In other words there are all these little errors that don't prevent me from working on this computer but are annoying overall. For example i'm not able to change my display settings to get my dual monitors to display extended instead of mirror.

    This is my work laptop and I don't do much on it other than browsing, email and MS Office so it's just surprising to see that things go wrong this quick.

    I thought i would post here because the same errors came back after re-installing making me think that someone might have seen something similar somewhere.

    :)

    Hi,

    Iunderstand the frustration if things are not working fine as expected.

            • When you say “I cannot access the start menu and am limited to IP as a browser” Is it refers to Microsoft Edge?

    Start menu not working

    I found the following article, ran the suggested powershell command and my start menu is working again. Here it is as I found it:
    Go to Start menu button and right click on it. This will open the contextual menu, after which you need to select Command Prompt (Admin). Once Command Prompt is open, go ahead with the following steps.

    • Type and enter: Powershell
    • Type the following: Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}
