Windows 10: Start Menu search is blank after renaming user profile folder

How to rename the User folder in Windows 10? - Super User

I followed the procedure in the link above to rename profile. After re-logging in with renamed user, start menu search stopped working.

What should I do? I tried re-creating windows search index, ran search index trouble shooting, nothing worked.

I'll recreate user profile if no solution works. Search works correctly on another user I used for renaming existing profile.

I'm on Windows Version 1909 because of company policy. Build Number is [Version 10.0.18363.1256].

Renaming the users folders

Hi,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

You are trying to rename the User folder, which can’t be done through the File explorer. Whatever user name you use of your User account, user account folder will have same name. You can rename the Subfolder of the User account folder but not User
account folder.

If you want rename the User account folder, change user account name using the suggestion

Lets’ refer to these steps to rename the User account and check if that helps.

• Press Windows and X keys together.
• Click on Control Panel, click on User Accounts.
• Click on User account, then click on “Change your account name”
• If it’s prompting for password please enter and click on Yes. If you do not have password click on
  Yes.
• Enter the new user name.
• Click on change name.

Windows 10 start menu not working/Maybe have a corrupt user profile

upgraded to Windows 10 Pro, start menu button along with search bar, notifications, sound slider and notifications stopped working a few days ago. however, I am able to right click on the start button to pull up functions. Task bar apps also work.

there is another user profile on the same computer and everything works fine. So, in doing some research in the forums, it may be possible by user profile is corrupt.

I will need to transfer my profile settings to a new account. I would like to keep the same user name for the new account. If I rename the corrupted account will the folders also be renamed?

also another thing to note is my user profiles are on a solid state drive (C and my data is on another hard drive a Data Drive (D

need a little step by step in transferring the profile. I think I'm know how to do this, but need to be sure.
