Start Menu try to access internet via proxy - annoying auth popups

    Hello

Almost every time I open the start menu, I get the proxy authentication popup, despite ticking the box save the details. There are also a whole bunch of potential proxy servers which can be connected to (I'm at university), and it randomly selects which one to connect to (as this would be the default for "automatically detect settings" in Internet Options.

Cortana isn't available in my country, and I've changed the search menu to not use bing to find results. I have no internet-accessing apps pinned to start. Why is it constantly trying to access the internet? Why won't it save my details after the first login despite it trying to access the same proxy? Maybe too many proxy requests lined up after each other?

Am I the only person frustrated by this issue? *Confused Proxies are annoying enough without Win10's start menu!

    :)

  2. Unable to access Feedback via Feedback Hub since installing Creators Update

We suggest that you turn off your proxy settings by following these steps:

    • From the Start menu, click the Settings or the gear icon.
    • Go to Network and Internet.
    • Look for the Proxy menu from Network and Internet.
    • Turn off your proxy by going to Use a proxy server then click the radio icon below.
    • Click the Save button.

Kindly check if you will get the same spinning circle when accessing Feedback hub. We also recommend that you try to access Store app and check if your will get the same error.

We'll be waiting for your response.

  3. Mail for exchange denies connection

    Hey no problem

Well try maybe disabling the Security (SSL) in the first setting menu if MFE and then try.

Another common problem is using an access point with a proxy server set up. MFE must have a normal access point i.e. no proxy or port only an access point name usually "internet"

    Let me know

Sounds like you need to get with the IT group that handles student computers.

My issue isn't with them, it's with the start menu that wants to access the internet for some reason.

Again in order to fix your problem, you need to get in touch with the IT group that handles student computer issues.

Unless there is something on your computer that you do not want them to find. Then it is your choice to not wanting them to look at it to see if your computer is infected with Malware or they have locked it down, because it was seen as a problem on the network.

I formatted and installed Windows 1511. It's not malware. Campus has various proxy servers - as is expected of a large institution. It's a personal laptop - they don't touch those and I'm a staff member. I've seen the same issue on all of my colleagues' laptops that were upgraded to Windows 10. I've switched off all telemetry and everything, yet Start wants to access the internet for some reason.

I need to know WHY Start is trying to access the internet and where the connection is going (then the IT people can maybe open it up to allow unauthenticated access to it).

Most of Microsoft's servers (such as windows update) are already accessible without authentication...so this traffic is going somewhere new.

As I have already stated, this is an issue that only your school's IT department that handles student computer/LAN issues can fix. It is obvious that after this many posts that you are not wanting to go to them to have them fix the issue. There really is nothing else to state to you what I have already done many times.

    *Banghead

I'm not going to them because the problem does not lie with them. The problem is with Windows 10's start menu trying to access the internet for some UNEXPLAINED reason. I'm STILL waiting for the explanation, so instead of referring me to the IT department which will just tell me that they won't touch my personal laptop and will tell me that they can't help me with Windows 10 since the 15 000+ PCs on campus are still on Windows 7, you can maybe do that if you so wish, or just tell me you don't know and then maybe somebody else will reply at some point.

Proxies are a way of life in the corporate world - I'm sure I'm not the only one with this issue. Start Menu does not need to access the internet - I would like to switch off anything it's trying to do on the internet, or know why it's trying to access the internet or where it's trying to connect to...anything except sending me to overloaded support staff on campus that won't be able to answer these questions! This is WINDOWS TEN forums, I'm inquiring about something that WINDOWS 10 is doing.

If I had an authenticated proxy set up at home, who would you be referring me to then? Myself?

You are not getting it. You have an issue on your computer. Windows 10 Live Tiles if you have them in the menu, will throw up proxy network errors, if you are on a school Domain.

Stop griping and take your computer to the IT staff at your school, that are there for a reason.

If you do not want them to look into why you are getting the proxy errors, even though I have repeated myself multiple times as to why you have a problem. I am done discussing this matter.

I am not getting proxy errors. I also have disabled background apps and there's no live tiles in my start menu.

I'm getting tons of proxy authentication popups, most likely because the start menu lines 20 authentication issues up in queue so I have to type in the details 20 times for them to go away.

Again that is because the Live tiles are trying to connect and have been blocked by the school network.

There is nothing you can do to fix it on your end. You have to take your laptop to the IT groip that handles students IT problems, so that they can fix the issue.

It is all about keeping one person from using up all of the available bandwidth on the network, is why they lock down with a proxy.

The equipment that the school uses to look for possible problems, sees the live tiles as a possible infection, even though it is not.

You can keep posting about this, or go see the IT gods on campus and have the problem fixed in about five minutes.

You obviously don't read my posts with any comprehension skills. Oh well, I gave it a try. "Possible infection"? LMFAO.

Thanks for trying to help though.

Hopefully somebody else can supply me with a solution.

I read your initial post, you keep repeating why you do not want to go to the school IT group, because you are refusing to accept that this problem cannot be fixed over the Internet or by just going on your machine. It has to be done by the IT group for your school Network, because Live Tiles as I stated, will kick back proxy errors if the school has it locked down to not allow certain ports to be used, which the Live Tiles would appear as Malware on the network.

It is your computer, do as you wish with it. The problem is still going to be there if you keep reloading an image.

The last option "search online and include web results" must be off.
