Windows 10: Start Menu

Start menu only opens with the top half showing and the bottom half is gone when first opened. This happens randomly and makes this brand new and currently updated with most recent Windows updates, Surface Book 2 look glitchy. It happens every time I click to open start menu especially if I haven't clicked it in a while. There's no delay with the top half as it rolls up normal but the bottom half has about a second delay and can see the desktop behind where the bottom half of start menu should be, it's cut off half way down. I have not been able to discern a pattern of any kind and have seen it happen since first purchasing this computer, before any updates two weeks ago.


This adds to the list of glitches found on my Surface Book 2 and they all could be related. The main glitch I have encountered and is discussed on another forum is that the NVIDIA Graphics card doesn't exist, even though the Surface Book 2 is advertised to have the NVIDIA GTX 1060, it does not all the time, though it does make an appearance at random in the task manager showing it's current status along side Intel card but is absent most other times but that tells me it does actually have one in there somewhere, it's random, without even using computer the NVIDIA card will show up in task manager. Can't find a pattern or I've never been able to detect it when I want to or access the NVIDIA settings for anything but the Intel integrated graphics card and says "does not detect NVIDIA card" most other times. I Have to leave task manager open to see it pop in an out randomly.


If anyone has experienced the same problems with their Surface Book 2 and have found a solution, any help is much appreciated..

Windows 10 Start menu is empty

Hi. Steps 1 and 2 didn't do much but step 3 has restored what looks like the list of original Microsoft apps but no sign of any of the many apps I have installed. And there are no tiles in the start menu. Any suggestions please?

Start menu not working

I found the following article, ran the suggested powershell command and my start menu is working again. Here it is as I found it:
Go to Start menu button and right click on it. This will open the contextual menu, after which you need to select Command Prompt (Admin). Once Command Prompt is open, go ahead with the following steps.

• Type and enter: Powershell
• Type the following: Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}
