Windows 10: Start window pops up frequently by itself---NOT A TOUCHPAD PROBLEM

I see this has been a question for years.

The most popular offered fix is to disable triple- and -quad tapping on the touchpad. Apparently this works for some people. Also sometimes it is Cortana that pops up. I hid the button. Not the solution.


I KEEP MY TOUCHPAD DISABLED. Don't like them and use a wireless mouse. It is not a touchpad problem.


Second-most is to scan for viruses. This is not a virus.


Visually, it is as if i put the mouse pointer on the Windows or Start button and clicked. This can happen at a rate of 3X a second, and for as long as 15 minutes. Obviously, it stops all work until it subsides. Rebooting does not have any particular effect.

If it is in one of its quick-repetitive episodes, I can see the sort of splash you get when you've lost your pointer and you hit ctrl to find it, over and over again.


Today I uninstalled AMD Radeon R4 a Dell specialty; video enhancer? and it got rid of another problem I had thought was part of the same thing: all movement of pointer, appearance of typed letters, and motion in videos but not the audio was hanging up for about one second out of four. At first I did not get the popups, but they have come back. Not the solution.


Asking Microsoft: is there a real explanation for this problem, and a real fix?


Of the choices, I'm posting this in Desktop and Start.
If there is a better place to put it, please tell me.

TouchPad problem

so i assume next steps are to have that program open that you suggested whilst using the laptop and then when the touchpad gets disabled to check if the keys have changed?

Hello everyone,
My laptop's touchpad works and I don't want it to, because I prefer a mouse. It's a Dell Inspiron 11 3000 series on windows 10 OS.

What I have tried that hasn't worked:

• start<settings<devices<mouse & touchpad<additional mouse options. This opens a window called Mouse Options which has 5 tabs up top, none of which involve the touchpad. The Hardware tab shows 2 devices: the mouse itself, and the USB. No touchpad there.
• windows key+x<mobility center. No touchpad to be found.
• various function keys. No options for touchpad on/off.
• device manager<mice and other pointing devices. Again, only the mouse and usb show up. It appears the touchpad is working without a driver, which is a little spooky.

Any other suggestions? I could try downloading a third party driver, but that seems like a step in the wrong direction.

I have a Dell laptop Inspiron M731R. Since upgrading to Windows 10 I find that I am unable to disable the touchpad.

• How are you trying to disable touchpad?

I suggest you to follow the below steps and check if this helps.

• Click Start.
• Type device manager into the Search box. Click the device manager result, and the Device Manager window will pop up.
• Expand Mice and other pointing devices.
• Right-click the touchpad's entry. In the menu that pops up, click Disable.
• Confirm your choice in the pop-up window.
