Static audio / video outputs through hdmi to AV receiver.

I have an ongoing issue with audio / video outputs from a pc I have in my living room.
Its an i5 with 16GB ram running win10 pro. The machine has 2 1660 graphics cards in it (used for folding when not in use for other things) and its generally used for playing video and audio to the surround sound receiver (Denon AVR2000) and tv.
For clarity there is also a Focusrite external sound card setup with a mic and separate headphone output which I use for video calls but this isnt causing a problem and isnt used here (and indeed this problem exists without this attached and/or installed).

I run 2 outputs from 1 of the graphics cards, a DVI and a HDMI, into 2 separate inputs on the AVR unit. One is used as a video screen for playback and one is used as more of a system screen, I rarely need to display the latter as I VNC into it on my phone to control the video output.

My problem comes after a shut down / restart / sleep and wake of the computer. On a couple of occasions it switches on and whilst the screens are located in the right place (video on the left) , theyve swapped physical outputs, and thus inputs to the AVR. The main problem is that MOST times it switches the audio around. And the audio is coming from somewhere I cant find. There are 6 instances of NVIDIA output in the sound control panel (6 video output). The two that are plugged in are the only 2 enabled ones, but sometimes another one appears to be plugged in, so I have to enable that one and disable the other. I often have to disable them all. Restart and then enable them to get any sound at all. Its as if its trying to be too clever and automatically set things up, but it doesnt know what Im trying to achieve and Id really rather just manually control things, the comparison I can make I guess is like a static IP address.
Sorry its wordy, I suppose my questions are, Is This a common issue? is there a way to manually assign a gpu output and its associated audio output to just stay as it is and not try to know best. After a restart its really pot luck whether Ill get audio or have to unplug hdmi cables. Restart the system. Plug them in then rename the outputs again.

I hope my issue is understandable and there may be someone who can help.

    :)

HDMI audio output to Sony TV

    Hi,

One possible reason why your HDMI audio output was not working due to outdated drivers. To isolate your issue, kindly answer the following questions:

    • Have you made any recent changes prior to this issue?
    • Did you get any error messages when you tried to connect your computer to your TV?
    • Have you tried updating your HDMI audio driver?
    • What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?

We're looking forward to your response.

How to get audio from HDTV to av receiver

@ H8 : Not if it's only an audio receiver and not an AV unit. I've got a Denon receiver with no video capabilities.

@Irish : Sounds like you need a simple stereo RCA cable. Will the TV output surround? It may not as was stated before.

How do I configure Windows to output audio & video to HDMI?

I want to confirm that playing a movie in my laptop computer will output HDMI to my home theater and I want to prepare for any trouble. The DVD/BD player reports that it has found 3 audio drivers: wasapi, null, and pcm, but it makes no mention of video.
Currently I play movies to the laptop's display, but in the future I plan to use HDMI to output to my home theater. I assume I will make Win10 aware of the home theater's presence by adding a secondary display but I've not found any indication that an HDMI
    driver exists.

I realize that Microsoft wants to keep users ignorant. Back in Win3 days, I used a Microsoft program named 'graphedit' to build my 1st DVD player. 'Graphedit' was a graphical environment that provided the means for users to connect sources to virtual controllers,
codecs, and filters, and then connect their outputs to one another and to output drivers, all via virtual patch cords. I miss graphedit. Nowadays Windows hides everything.

I've searched for HDMI in Device Manager also. I failed to find an HDMI driver.

I'm pretty confident that video will 'just work' when I do connect the HDMI output to my home theater, but it's important/critical that the audio output be LPCM rather than an AC3 or DTS passthrough. So it's in that context that I seek information/help.

This may be moot because last night I went ahead and ordered the HDMI-to-RCA converter. You see, my ancient 5.1 channel AV equipment predates HDMI, thus the need for the converter. The converter only works if the HDMI audio stream is LPCM, thus the need
for LPCM. I hate flying blind; Windows doesn't provide any vision. I hope I didn't waste my money.

PS: The reason I titled my topic as I did was that I hoped that, if I find an HDMI configuration applet, I'll also find that it contains a way to assure that the HDMI will use LPCM, thus, step 1: Find the HDMI configuration. Do you have any idea where it
is? (If there was still something like graphedit, I'd simply place an HDMI device on the virtual schematic, place a PCM device on the schematic, wire the PCM input to the system audio driver output, and if I could wire the PCM output to the HDMI -- if graphedit
allowed me to do it -- then I'd know that it would work. I miss graphedit.)
