Windows 10: steps to install Win 10

Could you please direct me to the post or thread that details the steps to obtain Win 10.
There is a lot of confusion about the process in the web.
I am told now to:
Find an assistant to run on my pc
upgrade to Win 10 from 8.1
then locate an iso to burn to dvd with no need for a key as it is validated when I first install it.

Please either correct this or direct me to the appropriate post as Icannot find a current, accurate one.

There is no Windows 10 Ultimate, there is a Windows 10 Pro though.

If you are running Windows 10 Home, you can upgrade to the Windows 10 Pro Pack through the Windows Store for $99.

Click Start > Settings > Update & security > Activation > Go to store

Make your purchase then follow the on screen instructions to upgrade.

Your system will be upgraded within 5 to 10 minutes.

I do know that I can download an upgrade from store and upgrade my edition of windows 10 to pro, but I like additional functionality and would like Ultimate, how can I do it clean install, or upgrade to pro and then to ultimate.

I have you in my favorites and thank you for your information. I am surprised we will use the technical preview iso to do this but it is what it is.

 

That's only because the Preview is the only version of Win10 currently available. After the 29th, the Released version will become available and, if you then to an upgrade from Win8.1 to Win10, you will get that version, not a Preview version.

 

Why do you think you will use the Technical Preview?
The last release was build 10240 which appears to be the one that will be sent out on the 29th, but it is not a TP releaase. There is no watermark and it does fully activate.

 

I read all of the directions in post # 2 which used the terms Win 10 pro insider preview. It exists in the blue directions as you are given directions to install -it is the second link in post #2

 

Build 10124 was still an Insider build. Some claim that was the actual RTM build -- which could very well be true since (1) it no longer has a watermark, and (2) it does not appear to have an expiration date.

... but ...

We really don't know for sure whether or not that is the same build that's going to be released on the 29th. IF it is, then we already have the released version.

Ah, I see. That tutorial was written for the TP/IP, not released version of 10. Needs to be updated I think.
