    Stereo Mix not recording anything

I have no idea why this isn't working. I have disabled all outputs and inputs except for Realtek Digital Output as output and Stereo Mix as input. Both at 100% volume. Checking/unchecking "Listen to this device" doesn't do anything nor does connecting a headset through a jack. Realtek Digital Output shows sound signals but Stereo Mix isn't picking up anything. I read that having an HDMI cable to a monitor bypasses the onboard soundcard, but shouldn't the onboard soundcard be used if you disable the monitor's speakers? My monitor doesn't even have speakers in the first place (although the output devices show it does because of another similar monitor model with speakers). Using Windows 20H2. What can I do to solve this?

    :)

Stereo Mix shows up, but doesn't record *anything*

    A couple more comments.
The Gigabyte Realtek listed for your motherboard states Win 10 V 2004 supported.
The Gigabyte Realtek listed for my Designare motherboard states support for 20H2 if you want to try it CLICK Its what I'm using and as previously noted Stereo Mix works OK.

I notice "Easytune" is listed as an app for your board. I had an earlier Gigabyte motherboard system that I used in my Recording Studio and was having audio problems. At the time I found out Easytune was a known problem. Uninstalled it and my Recording Studio audio problems went away. Whether this relates to your Stereo Mix recording??

  3. Windows 10 Stereo Mix

    Hi Nicholas,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

    Sorry for the inconvenience caused.

I suggest you to follow the methods below and check if it helps:

    Method 1:

Try the following steps to enable the stereo mix and check if that help.

    a) Right click on the audio icon in your system tray and select “Recording Devices” to open the Recording device settings in the “Sound” window.

    b) In the pane, right-click on a blank area, and make sure both “View Disabled Devices” and “View Disconnected Devices” options are checked. You should be able to see the “Stereo Mix” option appearing.

    c) Right-click on “Stereo Mix” and click “Enable” to be able to use it.

This should enable the “Stereo Mix” on Windows

    Method 2:

If the issue persists then I suggest you to uninstall and reinstall the sounds card driver and check if it helps.

    • Right Click on Start, Select Device Manager.

    • Find and double-click the category of device whose driver you wish to uninstall.

    • Right-click the device, and click Uninstall.

    • Windows will prompt you to confirm the device’s removal. Click
      OK to remove the driver.

    • After the uninstallation is complete, reboot your computer as soon as possible

Hope the above information helps. Reply with necessary information and the result to help you further. Thank you.

    Stereo Mix not recording anything

Stereo Mix shows up, but doesn't record *anything*

I think I'll try that driver. I doubt that will change anything but note that, like I said, it shows up already but records nothing.
I also never installed those Gigabyte software except RGBFusion which I uninstalled anyway because of how garbage it is.

    EDIT: Driver did nothing.

The audio features in my motherboard manual states STEREO MIX. Do you want me to take a picture of it?

No, if it was *lossless* like you are telling me, it would copy the audio signal 1:1 without *any* additional noise or artifacts. No matter what is playing. No matter what codec is used during the playback of audio, let it be MP3, OPUS, AAC.......... I deal with lossless on a daily basis. If I convert a MP3 to WAV for some godforsaken reason, the spectrals will LOOK THE SAME. When I was using Stereo Mix, I knew what the f* I was doing. Using virtual cables looks WORSE than Stereo Mix itself.

EDIT: I dunno what I did to the VC settings but now it did a perfect recording of that MP3. Weird.
