  1. Stereo Mixer in Windows 10 - What is Microsoft Position? Lots of Uncertainty? Please clarify

I do a lot of tech stuff for community theatre productions. Often this involves creating sound effects by mixing audio etc. I find Audacity, an open source package very handy for this. In order to record direct from the PC, ie have Audacity listen directly to the output of the PC speakers I used to use the facility in Sound, accessible by right clicking the speaker icon in the Win 10 system tray. This used to bring up a dialogue that enabled you to enable an entity called STEREO MIXER which served this purpose perfectly. Now I find right clicking the speaker option takes you straight to Sound SETTINGS, where that option does not seem to exist.

There are lots of clips available on YouTube which with procedures which claim, if followed, to be re enable you to reinstall and then use this feature. I'd really like to know Microsoft's take on all this. Specifically

    1. Is the Stereo Mixer a thing of the past??

    2. Where can I find it documented that this change has been made.

Geeez guys, its hard enough to keep up in this world without being able to go somewhere official to get the full story.

Please can someone clarify for me.

    :)
