  1. Still no answers on age-old question about PressReader app circumventing Windows sleep

Windows sleep works just fine and as expected --- except for a Windows Store app called PressReader. Until I encountered this problem, I thought Store apps were supposed to be isolated from reaching outside their authorized access. But PressReader somehow has the ability to turn off Windows sleep function without any authority I recall. Does anyone know how this is even possible?

This has been true for several months. A few months ago, a PressReader tech support person told me PressReader is aware of the issue and is working on it. I don't know what that means.

It's a problem for two reasons. The immediate reason is that, if I'm on battery power and step away from reading the newspaper for awhile, my battery is dead when I return. But the bigger questions is how Store apps are able to circumvent my settings in Windows. If PressReader can do this, then other apps can too. Does anyone know more about how apps are allowed to circumvent restriction settings in Windows?

This occurred on my previous Surface Pro 4 running Windows 10 Pro and now on my Surface Pro 6 running Windows 10 Education. I have no reason to think the problem is limited to this platform or this OS version.

    :)

  2. A specific app, PressReader, prevents my Surface Pro 6 from going to sleep. Why?

The steps I gave pinpoint everything including drivers. So if PressReader is delaying Sleep it will show up, if not in one of the troubleshooting steps then in the Sleep trace I would have given you next:

Trace Windows 7 boot-shutdown-hibernate-standby-resume issues - MSFN Forums.

I've helped over a hundred thousand customers directly in forums and not one has ever had a catastrophic result. To the contrary millions have followed my tutorials for Clean Install and have the best installs of Windows that exist. I've also won the highest
award in the tech field for all ten years I've helped in forums.

Edit: Before releasing the thread I did have one other idea. Contact PressReader Support here to see if this is a known issue, since you claimed it is responsible:

    Get PressReader - Microsoft Store.
They must support the app or you can report them at the link alongside theirs to Microsoft.

    Good luck.

    "Pressreader" "Pressreader" "Pressreader" "Pressreader"

A specific app, PressReader, prevents my Surface Pro 6 from going to sleep. Why?

Is there some feature in Windows that allows an app to keep Windows from going to sleep. My Surface Pro 6 goes to sleep on schedule as expected except when the PressReader app is in normal or expanded view. The app can be open and minimized and Windows
will go to sleep on schedule. But if the app is expanded, Windows will never go to sleep. It will wind the battery down to zero. Can someone tell me why?
