If you have a memory manager tool/program on your Windows 10 PC that shows you which programs are using your memory, you've probably seen 'microsoft.photos.exe' consuming LOTS of memory, even when you don't have it open. If your memory manager tool/program I use Advanced SystemCare allows you to delete or stop this process from running, it will reappear within a minute or so and start consuming memory again. Here are the two things I did to prevent it from starting, restarting, and running in the background, so you can use your memory for more important things like video games!.

Step 1- Find the MajorGeeks video on YouTube called 'Restore the Windows Photo Viewer on Windows 10'. It will show you how to restore the classic Windows Photo Viewer program from Windows 7 and Windows XP? that we're all familiar with. The classic Windows Photo Viewer program was replaced in Windows 10 by the Microsoft Photos program, which is a slow, clumsy, memory-hogging photo viewer, that I have no use for. Follow the steps in the video carefully to create a registry edit file it's much easier than it sounds!. Run the '.reg' file you've just created and restart your PC.

Step 2- If you have a photo background/wallpaper on your PC, it's likely been put there by, or through, the Windows 10 Microsoft Photos program. Go to any picture file jpeg, bitmap, png, etc. in Windows Explorer, right-click on the picture and open it with the new old Windows Photo Viewer program. You may have to dig a little to find it. Try this- Right-click on the photo file, then 'Open with' -> 'Choose another app' -> 'More apps'. When you find it, make sure to make Windows Photo Viewer your default program for those file types by clicking the check box. Once the picture opens in Windows Photo Viewer looks familiar, right?, right-click on it and select 'Set as desktop background'.

I did this a few hours ago, and the 'microsoft.photos.exe' file HAS NOT reappeared in the list of background processes running in my Advanced SystemCare memory manager program. And the best part is my PC is running MUCH FASTER, and my commonly-used programs aren't crashing anymore!

You may be able to accomplish the same results by downloading and/or choosing a different photo program ACDsee, Kodi, Photoshop, etc., and using that program to set pictures as your background, but I didn't try that. It seems that the most important thing to keep 'microsoft.photos.exe' from running is to NOT use the Microsoft Photos program to set your background/wallpaper.

NOTE- I am not affiliated with MajorGeeks.com, YouTube, Advanced SystemCare, Microsoft, ACDsee, Kodi, Adobe, etc. Full credit for the restoration of Windows Photo Viewer and Registry Edit file creation goes to MajorGeeks, and the gentleman in the YouTube video.

    Good luck!!

  3. Microsoft signals end of Paint program

Microsoft has confirmed that it will continue to offer its graphics program Paint.

In a recent update, it had listed Paint as a feature that would be either removed or no longer developed.

Paint, renowned for its simplicity, has been part of the Windows operating system since its launch in 1985.

Microsoft suggested it would not remain on Windows 10 by default but did say it would be available for free on the Windows Store.
