    Hello,

    Windows 10.

Computer (Toshiba Laptop) won't boot today. Unaware of loading any new programs. Put it to sleep and now it won't boot.

Start is interrupted by a blue screen: 'Stop code Critical_Process Died :( Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart.' Microsoft collects some information then restarts. It says Preparing Automatic Repair then Diagnosing Your PC. A blue screen appears 'Automatic Repair' with two options: Restart and Advanced Options. Restart doesn't help. It just says Attempting Automatic Repair then returns to Your PC did not start properly.

Advanced Options gives Choose an Option. They are Continue, Use a device, Troubleshoot, and Turn off your PC.

Troubleshoot gives Reset this PC, Recovery Tool, Advanced Options.

Advanced options gives System Restore, Go back to the previous version, System Image Recovery, Start-up Repair, Command Prompt, UEFI Firmware Settings.

System Restore doesn't help. Gives me a popup window with one option that was automatically created (I was asleep when it was made). Clicking 'Show more restore points' gives two more options, both Windows Update. I cannot engage either. I get a window asking me to 'Confirm disks to restore'. The only option is Local Disk C, but I cannot tick the box. The Next button is greyed out. I tried the first option of the Automatic Restore Point but this has not helped.

I tried 'Go back to the previous versioln' but this has not helped.

I don't have a system image on the computer

    Start-up Repair doesn't help.

I haven't tried the last two as I'm aware it's easy to make things worse.

Under 'See more recovery options' I have Start-up Settings. This gives seven options including low-res video mode, safe modes, and disable modes.

Enable Safe mode just restarts as though I had switched off and on. No safe mode. Same for Safe mode with networking.

I hesitate to use Reset this PC as I have a lot of work that is almost finished and that I have not backed up. I am looking after someone and did not bring my backup disks (three months of work!).

Can anyone please offer some guidance? I will try to find a shop where I can buy a laptop drive reader and a new external disk tomorrow morning (but it's Sunday, and this is rural England, so I will probably have to drive many miles).

    Thanks.

    :)

    CRITICAL_PROCESS-DIED in Windows 10

After a lot of thought I have come to conclusion that I do not believe anyone not even Microsoft has a answer as to why the error "CRITICAL_PROCESS-DIED" at boot up. A lot of people have steps we can take to fix this problem but that is where I am baffled
that they assume that I/we can boot up in any mode. I/WE can not get to the start button or cmd run as administrator or settings from the start menu. Please stop with all the steps you take to fix this problem when before I/WE can begin to step 1 it is assumed
that we are logged on to our PC. We are not. So anything said or typed after that is meaningless.

I am sorry if I might sound frustrated. It is because I am

    Stop code Critical_Process Died

    CRITICAL_PROCESS-DIED error.

First, please don't assume that I am able to download anything, go to start menu, run "cmd admin" or anything else that pertains to be able to boot up. I can't! Now that I have said that I have tried using the troubleshooting steps provided that does not
assume I can boot up an I can not get any of them to repair this "CRITICAL_PROCESS-DIED" problem when I try to log on. Ran a sfc /SCANNOW, Problems preventing from starting up, System Restore. I am trying to do a repair without having to reinstall windows
because I upgraded to Windows 10 from 7 months ago. Has Microsoft found a REAL solution to this issue or is it different for each computer?
