Windows 10: Stop picking my audio driver for me.

Dear Microsoft - please stop overwriting my manufacturer's brand new audio driver with some generic MS one from 3 months ago. At least give me the option to pick between the two by default. That would be really cool. I honestly do not care what Microsoft thinks is the best audio driver for my laptop - my soundcard manufacturer disagrees, and provides enhancements which the Microsoft one does not.


Uninstalling the device then running the install for the new driver doesn't work - the install requires a restart, and it seems the generic Windows driver installer beats the the third party installer to the punch every time.


I have never really had a reason to switch from Windows before - but this is giving me one. My music isn't loud enough to enjoy and my OS is ruining it for me.

Hi,

In that case, I suggest you follow below.

Step 1:

In the search box on the taskbar, type device manager, then select it from the results.

Step 2:

Select the arrow next to Sound, video and game controllers to expand it.

Step 3:

Look for IDT High Definition Audio CODEC. If it's listed, right-click it and select Update Driver, then select Browse my computer for driver software > Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.

Step 4:

You’ll see a list of pre-installed drivers. Select High Definition Audio Device, and then select Next.

Step 5:

Restart PC

Let me know the results after performing the above.

Everyone that post ids, need just do these steps and you will be good. I kinda tired of keep on uploading the inf. file

1.Go Open up device manager
2. Go under sound,video, and game controllers
3. Find Realtek High Definition Audio
4. Right click and hit update driver
5. Browse my computer for driver software
6. Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer
7. Click Have Disk and hit browse
8. Click on the Realtek HD Audio mod folder and look for win64
9. Click on the HDXRT4 and click ok,
10. Click Next and Yes
additional if you want dts audio and others, install it now before next step.
After it is done, restart the PC

You should be good then and also make sure before doing these steps that you have driver enforcement disabled.
