Stop windows changing default sound devices when a new device is connected

Firstly. Regarding Administrators / Moderators. Do not interfere with this thread, especially since most of you never bother to read the questions properly or provide relavent solutions.

This threadshould not have been closed. Smittychat. Did not bother to read the question properly and provided a completely irrelivant solution.

This thread should not have been closed. It is still a problem.

This has been an issue that many others have complained about: link, link, link, link, link. It's a problem because the way in which windows handles new audio enabled devices is a nuisance.

The issue: When a new device with audio input/output is found, windows changes the default devices around.

Why is this a problem: Because you do not give us the option to stop/block this functionality.

    Who does it affect:

1 Anyone connecting with a controller featuring audio support

2 Anyone with different setups that use audio routing solutions like voicemeter banana to create virtual audio drivers. This will likely include most professional streamers, podcasters etc

    Simple long term solution: @WindowsDevelopers:

<< --- And on the recording tab too

DO NOT SUGGEST THAT I DISABLE AUDIO DEVICES. I'm aware that this can be done for known deviceshowever it is not a solution. The problem is windows changing my setup automatically. I do not want this feature and I expect a solution that stops that automation. I expect full control over my setup.

For now though, I just want a solution that stops windows from automatically messing up my settings.

Final note. I have set the nature of this post to be a discussion. I still want an answer to my question and a relevant solution however I also want microsoft to do somthing about it & I think the best way to bring about change is to engage the community.

How many of you would find the above suggestion useful?

    :)

2 sound devices—one dedicated to FRAPS—will this work?

most games dont have a select sound device option so you would need to change your default sound device in the windows CP and then change the sound device to the other in ventrillo

    cannot change default sound device

i'm trying to play music through a bluetooth speaker. both the speaker and my laptop say that they are connected, but sound is only coming from the laptop speakers. so i check the default sound devices to see what's up, and i get this:

Stop windows changing default sound devices when a new device is connected [IMG]

i am unable to check any of the devices with the weird arrows. each device's properties info box says they're working properly. all drivers have been checked and are up to date. any ideas?

How to stop Windows from automatically switching default sound devices on connection

I am using a 3rd party app to control my sound outputs through virtual audio cables.

I want this to be my frontend for all audio interfacing.

If I connect any sort of new audio device, bluetooth speakers, usb mic, etc., Windows automatically sets that new device as the default and starts using it.

I totally understand why it is this way, but I want to disable this in Windows. I want the software I am using to handle my virtual audio cables to handle this functionality. For my setup to work, my default playback and recording devices have to be the
virtual audio cables that are managed by software. When windows changes the defaults automatically, I have to go back and reset the default devices to what they were before I connected my bluetooth speakers or whatever.

I want windows to stop trying to switch my default playback and recording devices and just leave it as-is no matter what gets connected or disconnected.
