Windows 10: Stop Windows Update: Intel Graphics driver update 26.20.100.7463? (may cause instability)

TL;DR

Intel HD Graphics update 26.20.100.7463 is causing a Windows 10 1903/1909 device to hang randomly within ~0-60 seconds of pulling up the "Enter Pin" screen and logging into Windows.


Device is Supermicro X11SSH-F motherboard with Intel HD Graphics P630 onboard.


How can I prevent this specific update from installing? I want it to stay as the motherboard supported driver version if I can.




Background Information


Recently had a server with Intel HD Graphics P630 internal graphics become completely unusable -- crashing with 60 seconds of using the computer. Running a Supermicro X11SSH-F motherboard.


Before realizing the driver update is the issue, did all of the standard tests.

1) SFC /scannow -- no issues

2) CHKDSK /f /r -- no issues

3) memtest86 -- no issues

4) Attempted upgrade from 1903 to 1909 using USB tool -- upgrade would not work


I thought may-be my off-brand, cheap NVMe might have been the issue. Picked up a new Samsung EVO Plus 970, fresh install of 1909.


Performed many iterations of the installation because once the driver is installed, I can't even run in safe mode as it also freezes before I can do anything. I get to the log-in screen and simply pulling up the "Enter Pin" form, everything freezes. Or, may-be I'm lucky enough to log in, but within ~10 seconds of seeing Desktop, Windows freezes again.


Everything works fine after a fresh install until I was able to catch windows update installing this new driver for me. It's not until that specific update is in the "installing" phase when the first freeze occurs. I even paused Windows update after a complete refresh, installed the driver direct from Intel and the same freeze occurs.


What makes this difficult and why I chose to write; I am unable to utilize even safe mode to revert to driver.


How can I prevent this update from taking place? With forced Windows Updates, I'm afraid in ~7 days, this Intel graphic driver update will automatically install and this will repeat.

There is a workaround i'm using successfuly since 2 months described at Guru3D
I suggest to create a system restore point before using it.

In your case you have to replace the title with "AMD*" of course.

I don't want to disable updates, that's stupid. I just want Windows to stop forcing god damn graphic drivers on this system.

Instead of improving security by delivering updates to more users they are forcing users into disabling Windows Update because it's so god damn annoying. The exact opposite effect in regards for better security...

This issue might have caused due to the outdated drivers of the Graphics display card.

Let's try the below steps and check if it helps to resolve the issue.

I would also suggest you to update graphics drivers.

  Press Windows key + X and select
  Device Manager.

  Search for Display Adapters and expand it.
  
• 
  Right click on the graphics driver
  and select Update driver software.

If that doesn't help uninstall and reinstall latest graphic driver from manufacturer's website.
