  1. Stopcode MEMORY MANAGEMENT during win 10 update

Short version. Since the April 2018 Windows 10 update I've not been able to perform a Windows update successfully. Every time I or the automated update system try it gets to 29%, restarts, throws up a massively useless:

**Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We'll restart for you.** **For more information about this issue and possible fixes, visit** [**https://www.windows.com/stopcode**](https://www.windows.com/stopcode) **If you call support give them this information:** **Stop code: MEMORY MANAGEMENT**

Then the PC restarts, and goes to the CMOS setup screen. I exit that and the process repeats exactly the same way one time, then after exiting the CMOS screen the second time it uninstalls the updates and the cycle starts again. I've done all the troubleshooting steps I can find - which I'll go over below in tedious detail - except the nuclear option of a reset/reinstall cause I don't wanna Stopcode MEMORY MANAGEMENT during win 10 update :)

So here's what happens in the afore mentioned tedious detail. First off the specs:

**OS Name Microsoft Windows 10 Home** **Version 10.0.17134 Build 17134** **OS Manufacturer Microsoft Corporation** **Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8700K CPU @ 3.70GHz, 3696 Mhz, 6 Core(s), 12 Logical Processor(s)** **BIOS Version/Date American Megatrends Inc. P1.50, Wed, 3, 21, 2018** **SMBIOS Version 3.0** **Embedded Controller Version 255.255** **BIOS Mode UEFI** **BaseBoard Manufacturer ASRock** **Hardware Abstraction Layer Version = "10.0.17134.1098"** **Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 32.0 GB** **Total Physical Memory 31.9 GB** **Available Physical Memory 25.0 GB** **Total Virtual Memory 36.7 GB** **Available Virtual Memory 27.7 GB** Here's what happens when an update starts, either manually or automatically: 01 The update starts and the initial screen: **Configuring update for Windows 10** Gets to 100% and the computer restarts. 02 The computer comes up in a low rez screen showing the message: **Working on updates: \_\_%** **Don't turn your computer off, this will take a while** **Your PC will restart several times.** It makes it to 29% and then it restarts. 03 I get the following message: **Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We'll restart for you.** **For more information about this issue and possible fixes, visit** [**https://www.windows.com/stopcode**](https://www.windows.com/stopcode) **If you call support give them this information:** **Stop code: MEMORY MANAGEMENT** Including a QR code which leads to the very useless [https://www.windows.com/stopcode](https://www.windows.com/stopcode) web page. The PC restarts. 04 Instead of any sort of OS or update related information, the computer comes up to the CMOS setup page. The first time this happened I was... Apoplectic is a good word. Luckily simply exiting CMOS gets the computer back to the update process. 05 Steps 02 through 04 repeat, but this time when I exit the CMOS screen I get a message that the update is being uninstalled back to the last good version of Windows. Sorry I thought I had a screen photo with the actual text to transcribe, but apparently not.

The PC restarts and removes the update, then restarts again and is back to where it was at the outset.

Once it's back to Windows I naturally hit the internet looking for suggestions which all seemed to come down to the following:

01 Update video drivers which I've done many times. I've got a nVidia GTX 1080 with 8 GB of ram. Updating the driver makes no difference. 02 Run Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool. Did that, it went through two passes and reports: **No memory errors were detected.** As a side note, after a few months of this back in 2019 I picked up an additional 16 GB of RAM reasoning that if there WAS a memory issue I'd simply replace the existing 16 GB, and if not, having 32 GB can't be bad. I removed the RAM which came with the PC and replaced it with the new RAM and tried the update with the same results. I then added the old RAM back as the second 16 GB, and tried the update, then swapped them so the old was the first 16 GB and the new was the second 16, both times with the same results. But now I have 32 GB in my un-updated computer, so yay for that I guess. 03 Check for corrupted system files. I opened an admin enabled instance of PowerShell and ran: **sfc /scannow** Which reported: **Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violation.** 04 There were suggestion to run a chkdsk /r, but my boot drive is an SSD drive and as I understand it running a /r doesn't help and potentially can decrease the life of an SSD so I didn't do that.

And that's it. All the web pages I've found say at this point the next step is a reset - which I'll try if no one has any other suggestions, or a re-install which will make me crawl under my desk and weep.

  2. Windows 10 restarts with stopcode Memory Management

Windows 10 restarts with error stopcode "Memory Management". Ran memory diagnostics and found no errors. Ran anti-virus scan found no threats. Windows 10 restarts while not using any applications or APPS. Checked Task Manager found no tasks using large
amounts of memory. Does anybody have a suggestion?
