Windows 10: stopcode unexpected kernel mode trap

I am experiencing the stopcode unexpected kernel mode trap on computer. It resets itself then starts to boot to now avail... then comes up with stopcode unexpected kernel mode trap... then cant get windows up. I can go into advanced setting and boot but lose all applications I have installed etc how can I stop this tks...

My computer decided to crash. I got a blue screen with a sad face and then it said it was investigating. I was presented with a QR code and a Stopcode : unexpected kernel mode trap? It said the computer would re-start itself, but it didn't so I had to switch
it off and on again. Now seems to be working fine.

I am operating with Windows 10 and I have in the past had the occasional situation where the computer just shuts down unexpectedly and re-starts. I read somewhere on a forum, the only way to cure it is to uninstall everything and start again?

I've read a few posts about similar unexpected kernel mode traps and they are all written in a completely alien language to me so I can't follow them at all. I am by no means a tech expert but do understand a little more than just switching on and off.

Can any of you tech types bring yourselves down to the level of the average man on the street and explain the issue and a fix to me, in simple plain English non-tech speak, or should I just throw the box of computer parts out of the window and buy a new
one?
