Windows 10: Stopping the 'Blue Screen' from 'popping up' for Win 10 'invasion'!

OMG! I would have thought that ‘English’ is UK English while the English International is for every other country that speaks it but is outside the UK!

As the ‘Upgrade’ has already started when I read your post and is now at 33% if I don’t like what is at the end then it will be HELLO MACRIUM again and then get the correct ISO/Language/1709/Upgrade! Arrrrrrgh!

 

Actually, you can just upgrade 1709 en-us to 1709 en-gb.

My main PC started life as an en-us OEM Windows 7 Premium (don't ask me why Toshiba installed en-us, it is a UK model) so of course with the free upgrade to 10 it got the en-us version. After the upgrade to 1511 annoyingly wiped all my UK language packs I took the step of upgrading from 1511 en-us to 1511 en-gb. Never needed to bother about language packs since then *Smile

 

I don't understand at all why Microsoft changed things around. Used to be that the downloads were labelled EN-US and EN-GB. It was easy to figure out which one you wanted, but there were other hurdles to jump, even back then.

One way to look at it is that since Microsoft is in Redmond, Washington, USA, it's a natural for the US English version to be labelled English. Kind of like the International English version would be labelled English if Microsoft were in the UK. *Smile

I think we should all give Microsoft some feedback on their download naming conventions!

 

Well after 2.5 Hours the Install and Configuration has 'finished' although there are some Microsoft Office 'Configurations' to resolve for other languages I had installed in 1607.

With some difficulty I eventually found the OS Version Number and Build for this Upgrade,'s and its NOT v1709.....
The Version is 10.0.16299 the Build is 16299.

While the other BIGGER 'problem' for me is that Microsoft Outlook has stopped working, advising me that it needs the Configuration File to 'fix' the problem, so unless I can find my original Office 2010 Pro disc, which I cannot, then it looks like I will be going back to Macrium and v1607, as this Upgrade is taking to much time and becoming totally frustrating, considering it was supposed to bring over the programs in their entirety, from what was being used before.

But clearly in this case it didn't work........*Sad*Sad

 

No, you have successfully upgraded to 1709, that is the correct number. Congratulations.

The full name of the 'Fall Creators Update' is Version 1709, OS build 16299. With the latest updates that would be build 16299.371. Run Winver to see...

 

Traveller, I can understand your frustration right now. Will you take one quick look at something for me, please.

Hold the WIN KEY on the keyboard and press the letter R. Type WINVER and hit enter. Either post a screenshot of the display, or type what it says.

Make sure you have the latest updates. If Winver says you are on build 16299.15 then you have not got the cumulative update yet, some of the updates since 1709 was release fixed Outlook issues. Open Settings > Update & Security and check for updates.

Thanks for the 'Congratulations' but I only feel about 33 and 1/3 Percent there at the moment!!

Well I have managed to get a trial activation key for Office 2010 Pro which has for now cured the glitch with Outlook.
Hopefully the other updates that Bree mentioned will make the program work correctly once again.

At this moment because of some other things going on in life it's a program that I need to collect objective evidence.
Looks like I ain't got all of the Updates for 1709 on the basis of what is in the picture after using WINVER,

But that's it for today, time for me cup of Horlicks and try to get some shut eye!!!*Tongue*Tongue

Yep. 16299.15 is the base release FCU. If you have trouble getting the latest cumulative updates downloaded, here is the announcement post for it. Shawn has included direct links to get the updates in post #1. Good luck and get some sleep.

You know, if you leave the computer on overnight you may wake up to find windows update has done the job for you - it's supposed to work in the background so you don't have to. *Smile

Good job on the in-place upgrade Traveller11. *Thumbs

I'm surprised that Outlook failed to make it through the upgrade - I had one system with W10Pro and O2010 Pro and had no problems with that upgrade - and I did it the same way you did, with an ISO and an in-place upgrade.

So, I have some suggestions for your Office problem.

1. Use the tool f14tomcat gave you to download the Office ISO you need:






Keep it safe for future.

2. Install Belarc Advisor, (free), run it, and grab the key for your Office installation. Write it down and keep it in a safe place.

3. Go to Settings>Apps & features, to your installed programs, find Microsoft Office, click on it once, then select Modify. At this point you should be able to do a repair to the installation.

You may or may not be asked to insert your Office disk to complete the repair.

4. If the repair doesn't work, you can back up your Outlook *.pst or *.ost data file, reinstall Office, import the data file, and you're back in business.

Well the sleep was most welcome (Thanks for the pointer f14tomcat *Wink) while if I had run this 'Plastic Box with a bunch of Chips inside' overnight then being a light sleeper I don't think I would have got much sleep as the mind would have been wondering what the hell was going on! (Apologies to Bree!) *Tongue

Having said that the Update 'saga' to get to a complete v1709 continued this morning after booting up, while at one point I didn't think I was going to see my Desktop Login screen it took that long to appear, but we eventually got there, so off we went yet again!

While I counted 16 Update files after allowing Windows to 'search' in total after completing the exercise there are over 60 Updates that have been installed, the majority though have been for Microsoft Office.

To also respond to 'simrick'.
The tool suggested by f14tomcat had already been saved for future use, but your suggestion of using 'Belarc Advisor' to establish the Activation Code for Office 2010 would not work as it has been activated for only 30days as a 'Trial' while having found the correct Activation Code all is now well, until the next Windows Update no doubt buggers it up again!! *Redface
